I have been in a long distance relationship for over 5 years. My fiance finally came to the states on Sunday and we need to get married in less than 90 days before his visa expires. Due to the situation, I was unable (and he didn’t want me to without his input) to plan the wedding of my dreams. I am planning to throw a bbq to celebrate our civil ceremony and introduce him to my family/friends. Now here is where I need help. I want to make sure that the people invited know that this is not MY REAL WEDDING but a celebration after getting legally married. I was thinking something like "Come join us for a BBQ to celebrate our …….". Please help. Thank you in advance.

I assume the ppl you are inviting to this BBQ know that your Fiance has been living out of the Country, right?
You could say something like… Fiance is here from Austria and we can’t wait another day to be married! Please join us for a BBQ to celebrate our civil ceremony… and then at the bottom of the invite you can put somthing like Invitation for Formal Wedding ceremony to follow next year.

Anything where you say PLEASE JOIN US IN CELEBRATING…our wedding, our life together, our love. I would put the word out to my friends how I wanted them to dress, a barbecue can be casual or more elegant, I just wouldnt want people showing up in jeans and shorts. Now that, that is done, do not allow anyone ever to discount your choice due to the pressure of the Visa, we all choose based on some arbitrary timeline, yours is just as legitimate as any other!
