- Wedding: June 2011
So, I don’t post a lot but, now that we’re planning this party I find myself needing suggestions for things I didn’t need before.
Basically, we got married last year, just the two of us for a bunch of reasons. This summer, we’re planning to have a bigger (about 100 people) “Anniversary Party” to celebrate with friends and family. We’re throwing it ourselves, and we want it to be very fun and laid back but also nice.
It will be on the patio of a historic mansion in Detroit. It’s not a “themed” party, but its sort of inspired by 1950s travel posters/americana. You can get an idea for what I mean with my original post here.
I’m not wording the website on attire, and am not sure how to phrase it. I want people to dress nice, and dress up, but it’s outside in the summer. (5:30-9:30 pm). It’s on an island in the middle of the river, but I don’t want people to think they need to overdress. I myself will probably order a really nice cocktail dress from JCrew or something, and Darling Husband will probably wear a suit. I want people to wear dress shirts and not jeans, but I also don’t expect people to wear full dark suits with jackets. Light suits or searsucker also seems perfectly appropriate to me. It’s going to be buffet catered, if that matters.
What do I call this? I don’t want to say “casual” because that means people will probably show up jeans or really casual dresses. But I think even semi-formal usually implies dark suits, right? What about “cocktail?” I think most people will get it, but we both have a few groups of family members who are less socially graced, if you know what I mean. ; )
Thanks for the help, ladies!
