Hi all, my soon-to-be fiancé and I have a family diamond we would like to use in my engagement ring. I usually have pretty traditional tastes I am struggling to find a setting that I love (I don’t want just a solitaire — I want a little more finger coverage and detail). We found this setting currently holding a sapphire that we like and need some opinions.
Would replacing the sapphire with my diamond (that is just slightly larger than the sapphire but a similar size/shape) look good or just eh? If you think it would look bad, please tell me!
Below are photos of the original setting and a PHOTOSHOP of the diamond instead of the sapphire (please don’t roast my photoshop skills — it’s just to get an idea).

The sapphire is beautiful!

does that mean you don’t like it with the diamond? It’s fine if not! Since I definitely want to use a diamond for my ring, I’m trying to figure out if I need to go a different direction for the setting

Both rings look beautiful but I like the sapphire better with that setting!

I love that ring setting with a sapphire in it but it seems to overpower your very beautiful diamond. I think something with smaller side stones would be better. I’ve seen bees on here with small pears at the sides of their diamonds and it complements well.

I think it looks great with both! I prefer the look of the sapphire in that setting but the diamond is honestly still lovely! I think if that’s the setting you like, you should go for it!

I adore the diamond with it. Much nicer than the sapphire imo! I think it’s just beautiful.

While it’s lovely with the sapphire, it looks so nice with the diamond.

I really like it with the diamond.

I think the diamond gets a little muttled with that setting and something with smaller side stones would allow it to shine more. But that’s just personal taste and it is a pretty setting so if you like it that’s what matters! It definitely wouldn’t look bad in that setting though!

Second this! Can you do the same pattern on the sides but with smaller stones?

I think this setting looks better with the sapphire. I agree with PP that this setting would be good if the side diamonds were a little smaller.

I prefer it with the diamond…it gives it a vintage vibe imo.

I think it looks fine either way, but I personally like it better with the sapphire. I agree with PPs that with a diamond, it kinda comes off as a mashup of diamonds (which is still pretty and very sparkly), but it’s just harder to tell what’s going on.

i like the sapphire; they balance eachother with a nice pop!
