This guy sounds like a nightmare. I’d be pi$$ed if someone lost my photos let alone totally ignored me when I requested a re-do.

Did you have a written contract with your photographer? Something signed in hard-copy by both you and him? Were the engagement photos/shoot included in a package or spelled out in a line-item on your contract? In other words, was there a specific cost associated with the engagement photos/shoot?

I think a lawyer or even wedding planning professional can prob give you better advice than I can, but if you had a contract with this vendor for engagement photos/shoot then you have legal recourse to go after him for either your photos (if he can find them) or the fee. I suggest sending him a hard-copy snail mail letter threatening legal action or report to the Better Business Bureau or threatening both. Print out and keep for your records hard-copies of each of your emails you sent to him. Have you documented each time that you called him and left a message?

Do you have a friend or family member who is a lawyer who could represent you? Perhaps they could advise you on how to pursue this. Does the cost warrant a trip to small claims court? He cannot ignore a court order… good luck!

You probably need to act very quick about this.  Contact your photographer via phone or email and demand a response stating a specific amount of days (I think 2-3 is good even though WPPI is going on right now).  In your email or phone conversation, state that if you do not hear a response, you will be contacting the Better Business Bureau.  This should be enough to get a response from your photographer.  If you don’t, you might want to consider contacting a lawyer.  Depending on where you live, the statute of limitations might have cut off your right to sue.  Your lawyer should be able to give you a good assessment on whether you have a rightful claim or not based on the contract you signed with the photographer.

I used to do wedding pictures as a pro and I heard about people taking photographer to court.

Small claim court doesn’t require a lawyer but there is certain limit ($) you can ask for. Check your state.

@jenjen – I just read the other strange thread about this photographer. Clearly, you’re not the only one who has had problems with him. I encourage you not to be passive about this. Take him to small claims court and report him to the Better Business Bureau. It’s totally a pain for you, but you’ve paid him for a service that he hasn’t rendered – a judge will find in your favor. Whether or not he’ll pay, even with a judgment against him, is unfortunately a different story, but at least you’ll be helping future brides. ((hugs)) and good luck!

I am sorry your having such a hard time!! I hope that it all works out in the end!

Photographers that aren’t honest with their brides ruin it for us photographers that LOVE what we do and LOVE our brides. 🙁

That is really despicable, and as Lindleysphotography said, really pulls down the wedding photographers down a notch. But I don’t understand this phrase, ” No.  Process what you want.  I will hold everything now.  Thanks.”  Does that mean you can continue to process charges for him losing photographs?  But if he did lose the photographs how can he really hold “everything?”  I know semantics.

How can he lose all those photographs, and still try to run a business?  Sheesh!

I hope you can get this resolved ASAP.

Do you happen to have a copy of your contract?

Our engagement sessions run about $400 if your just getting a session, but if you get a wedding package the session is complimentary.

I HATE so much that this person is doing this to you! Where are you located out of?
