Hello Fellow Bees
Ok here is the concept. We are having a buffet style reception and I really dont want to rent real dinner ware for my guest. I think that extra money I can put towards something else just my opinion since the reception is being held at a rec center. Also if my guest want seconds they can just get a clean plate. However I do want my reception to still look elegant. My colors are red and white and the table cloth will be white with red napkins and the chairs are white with red bows. Center pieces are red and white flowers with candles and hints of silver also. (still working out the kinks) Here are pics of the plastic wear I found online that looks real including plates, cups and silverware. Not sure which plate I wants, just giving you and idea. What do you guys think…can I get away with it…..sorry the pics are so big

These would probably be just fine for the kind of reception you described, but I’d want to see and feel some samples before making an order for them. I think the feel of plasticware is often what makes it seem “cheap,” not the appearance or styling? Can you order a sample kit or make a small order then use them for picnics if you don’t like them?
The plastic silverware needs to be sturdy enough to stand up to whatever your meal choices are, so cut a potato or a chicken breast with them, and make sure the fork tines don’t feel “gritty” in your mouth. The glasses should have a little weight to them and not tip over if they’re filled too fast or set down too fast. The plates should be heavy-duty enough that you can’t cut through them and so that hot food doesn’t melt them, and wet food doesn’t seep through. Unfortunately you can’t judge any of that from photos.

At FI’s cousins wedding, they had fancy disposables. That was the first time I’ve ever seen those and I thought they were nice. The plates were white with silver trim, the flatware was silver and the glasses looked similar to the one you posted. I liked them. His mom is giving us the extra ‘glasses’ because they came in too late.
I think what you are planning will look good. 🙂

I think it’s fine! I really like those gray plates. And I agree with ordering a sample.
I might consider the nice disposable linen napkins. I think that would be a little more logical from a guests’ POV just because I’d know basically everything I was putting my mouth on was disposable. That sounds weird, but something about a linen napkin on a plastic plate throws me – but a plastic plate on a linen tablecloth doesn’t. That is minor though!

Thanks so much ladies for the ideas and input. I will order a sample and use them for thanksgiving. I have to research the disposable linens…never heard of those.
