Anyone ask for a heparin lock during labor so that you could still move around in the hospital? Was the staff OK with that or were they hesitant? Just wondering about your experience. I’d like to be able to move and walk etc. so I am thinking I will request it instead of an IV.

@travellingfool: A heparin lock, saline lock and IV are all basically the same. The difference is if you have a continuous infusion or not. Any IV can be locked for freedom of movement, it just depends on what you need. Most hospitals are doing saline locks now instead of heparin locks, the only difference being the medication used to lock the IV. I had a saline lock placed, that was hooked up to medications or infusions when needed. Hope that helps some.
