Why would he tell her? “By the way your beautiful ring that you’re very happy with isn’t a dimond, you know a rock the De Beers people have a monopoly over which makes them very expensive yet not valuable. “

Do not tell her of course because that would cause trouble. Just stay out of it. If she finds out and is upset she has more of a problem that he does.

Why didn’t he tell her before he placed the ring on her finger, or within a few seconds of doing so? If she loves him she wouldn’t pull it right off her finger and throw it at him would she?

You shouldn’t even have considered telling her yourself. He cant run to you every time he needs to tell her something important while they are married so I’m confused as to why he asked you to do it. It’s all part of becoming a married man and being able to make his own decisions in my  eyes. Me I wouldn’t care if my fi bought me a diamond, a ruby, a sapphire or whatever, but I would care if he didn’t say it wasn’t a diamond when he gave me it (if it wasn’t already blatantly obvious).

he needs to tell her before she goes to get it appraised for insurance purposes.  that would be very humiliating for her if she thinks it’s a diamond.

it’s not fake, it’s real and sapphires of any colour are beautiful.  nothing to be ashamed about.

Her ring is REAL its just not the same stone she thinks it is……he needs to be the one to tell her though…not you.

@Nona99:  I wondered if she may actually have known but just didn’t care and told people it was a diamond.  I am getting a moissanite ring. My boyfriend wanted to get me a diamond but I don’t want a diamond. He insisted I tell people it’s a diamond but I won’t do that. I’m quite proud of the gorgeous custom ring I’m getting and we’re saving thousands by getting moissanite which I think is more beautiful that most diamonds anyway,

I’m glad she was cool with it. It sounds like a gorgeous ring. I would LOVE an Oval white sapphire ring to wear. I only wear rings on my left ring finger or they drive me nuts so I’d have to swap it out for my e-ring now and again. We can’t afford proper jewelry right now though with wedding and furbaby issues so maybe one day in a few years ^_^

Aww that’s funny how it worked out. Family members have surprised me, especially when it comes to wedding stuff. They do the total opposite of what you expect. I’m glad it turned out ok. Congrats to your sis on her wedding.

@Nona99:  Yes, it would matter a great deal to me if I were her.

ETA: Ah, just saw your update.  Glad she took it well… but I would not have been okay if my Fiance passed off something else as a diamond explicitly or not.

Awww! YAY it went well! You and your sister sound like a great pair. I wish I were that close with mine 🙂
