I’ll be 100% honest and say I’ve never heard about the shoulder thing before.

    My bust is 39

    Waist: 25

    Hips: 36

I’m a top heavy hour glass and I’d love to change my shape!  I’m beyond jealous of girls with lovely hips.  I look like I’m going to topple over at any minute: not very flattering

@Lulume:  I think it’s human nature to just be unsatisfied with what we have Smile.

I’d happily give up some inches in my bust if you are willing to give me some inches from your hips!

And I have plenty of inches from my waist I’d be willing to give away Wink

@Lulume:  Your meausurements/distribution are similar to mine when I am 10 pounds heavier than I am now. I went from 37-28-40 (pear) to 37-26.5-37(hourglass).

So it is kind of hard to say for sure. I guess pear v hourglass is not absolute but depends on what you weigh at any given moment in time. It is less common to go from apple to pear.

@Lulume:  Oh and I was much more of a pear when I was younger, but lifting heavy weights broadened my top area and made my shoulders wider.

I’ve never heard of measuring shoulders. Based in your measurements you’re a pear, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

I’m 39 bust, 29 waist, 40 hip which is considered an hourglass.  A deviation of an inch (even two) will still keep you in the hourglass category but 3+ inch difference between your bust and your hip will throw you into another category.

when you look in the mirror do your butt/thighs stick out comparatively? bc then you’re probably more pear. if not, try measuring on top of your hipbones and using that as a “hourglass vs pear” benchmark instead – i have a bubble butt, and from the front i like an hourglass, even though my butt gives me a larger measurement. another way to figure it out is to check out some beauty magazines and find out which clothing tips make sense. i find that even though my largest measurement throws me in the pear category, i naturally don’t do any of the pear suggestions, and almost all of the hourglass ones  – i just need to be conscious of minimizing my butt on top of it. remember that these are pretty broad categories, so the measurements are benchmarks, not 100% defining. and even if you are a pear – there’s nothing wrong with that. whle hourglass is the “ideal” shape, most of my favourite celebrities aren’t one
