So I told my fiance a while ago that I did not want to walk down the aisle to “Here Comes the Bride” and I was shocked that this actually bothered him!! He can’t wrap his brain around why I wouldn’t want to walk to that song. He says that’s what tells everyone to stand up and it’s the one time in my life that the song will be played for me. But I’m sorry I just don’t like that song, it’s just not for me. I want to come into something different! Who else is walking down to a non-traditional song?? What are you going to play?
I find the Bridal Chorus to be a bit cheesy, due to its heavy use in movies and television, and not the most beautiful piece of music I’ve heard in my life by a long shot. I walked down the aisle to one of my favorite pieces of music in the world, the theme from Holst’s “Jupiter” from The Planets. It starts at 2:53 here.
There were many times when I listened to that piece and fantasized about walking down the aisle toward my husband and just melting with happiness, and the reality was just as amazing as I’d hoped.
If you are looking for a really song (versus classical), I really like “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles. It’s really upbeat and you can draw so many metaphors to the Sun – the bride, the marriage, the happiness of the union, etc.
