Yes, definitely! And the crinoline removed would make a huge difference. I think you should remove about 1/3 of it now and maybe even more between ceremony and reception.

ETA: Also, why can’t it be made into a sweetheart? I’ve seen that exact neckline style made into sweethearts quite often. I would go get a second opinion.

The dress you have looks amazing, trust the designer of the dress, that if it would look better with a sweet heart neckline it would have one.

Also if your dressmaker (who is reputable) says she cant alter the neckline, I would be inclined to trust her, have you seen the altered version of this dress, you dont want a butchered dress.

Sweetheart necklines are a little overrated, and I do not hink one would look great on the dress you have anyway.

Be happy with your choice! It looks freakin’ awesome!

Get a second opinion from another seamstress. She sounds kind of negative and that comment about your dress not being good for moving around at the reception was uncalled for. I mean who is she to decide that. Seriously find another seamstress.

your waist is TINYYY in the 2nd dress…I know you’ve already bought it but I LOVE the 2nd dress on you..I am like you–skinny, no curves, my said the mermaids did not accentuate my curves and made me look thin and straight vertically if that makes sense, so it is best to opt for more fuller bottom like A-line to accentuate curves…any way you can get the 2nd dress? :/

You have an amazing figure.  The second dress looks like its swallowing you. The first one really shows YOU off.  It looks great!

I really love your dress…more than the second one. I do see what you mean about making you look less “slim”….I think it sinches you in in the middle a bit more but other than that I still don’t feel like the other dress can compete.

As for the sweetheart neckline…I would be dissapointed too….so I feel you, but I really like yours looks really amazing the way it is.

Your dress is stunning! That being said, so is the other one, but I think you should keep the one you’ve got!

Unless your dress has a bone going directly down the middle making a sweetheart neckline is an easy thing to do. Either the bodice can be pinched or the fabric can be cut to make the sweetheart. I would go to another seamstress if I were you.

I love your first dress!  It’s a difficult style to pull off and you do it wonderfully!  I don’t think it requires a sweetheart neckline; it’s beautiful the way it is.  But if that’s really important to you, take it to a few other reputable seamstresses and see what they say.  Don’t second guess yourself or do what the expert says just because she’s “the best”. You don’t need a reception dress unless you want one.  I’m jealous of your figure, girl.  Rock it!

I agree with PPs, I love the first dress on you. Not many women could pull off that siloutette!  If you’re concerned about ease of movement, you could remove a bit of the poof from the skirt, or perhaps the alterationist could make it detachable for removal for the reception?
