  • poll: Do you think that I should mess with this dress by adding more lace or appliques?

Add real lace that matches applique distribution UNDER the organza layer.

Add real lace that matches applique distribution OVER the organza layer.

Add more appliques that travel partway down the skirt.

Add more appliques on top of the skirt and real lace under the organza layer.

I actually think lace might look sort of awkward.  I think if you’re going to add anything, the appliques would look best.  If you add a lace skirt, I think it would look like 2 different dresses put together and not really match.

If you really want a lace dress, have you considered getting a 2nd dress, like maybe a replica from china, thats lace?  (Hate to suggest you spending more money, but I really think the 1st dress would be ruined by adding a lace skirt).

I have no idea which of your four choices in your poll to suggest. But I read your description to offer an alternative where you remove the existing skirt and replace it with lace.  I think you should definitely NOT do that.  I think you’d end up with a dress with two totally different looks.  It would be much better to modify the existing skirt with some lace appliques or lace hidden underneath it.

Here are some examples of dresses similar in style to yours with a skirt whose pattern of applying appliques you may want to consider (though I wouldn’t reconstruct these patterns exactly because they won’t match your dress):

I have nothing to add to your poll, but just wanted to make a comment. I saw the pic of the dress on the hanger, and it looks so shapeless and drab, but with you in it… va va voom! Beautiful!

At the absolute MOST, I would maybe put appliques on the skirt, but I think it looks great as is.

The only thing I would do is get a crinoline skirt to make the bottom poof out more.  But in terms of adding stuff I think you should leave it as is!!!!!
