Well ladies, I have some developments to report.
I am here in Vancouver visitng my FH – we’re doing long distance right now while I finish up school. I had posted below about whether or not I should ask him to go ring shopping with me, since we hadn’t looked at all together and it was worrying me.
I was very careful how I brought it up, very casually as we were talking about other wedding/future related things, I simply said “If you want to know what kind of rings I like, just ask my mom.” to which he smiled and said:
“I’m going to be using my grandmother’s ring.”
Wow! I guess I hadn’t really expected this, but I am getting an heirloom ring! 🙂 He doesn’t know anything about it really, and hasn’t seen it yet. All he said was “I think the diamond’s pretty big.”
I am slightly nervous of course, that I won’t like the ring…I guess it can always be re-set. (I just *really* don’t want yellow gold! *blush*). I am more nervous that it won’t fit my chubby fingers…I wear like a size 7.5 or 7.75 and his grandmother is this very petite little woman. These are minor details though.
I am not sure when the proposal will happen, but at this point, I am guessing early 2011 at the earliest. I know he hasn’t talked to my parents yet, and he also doesn’t have the ring. We’re going to be with my family for Thanksgiving and his for Christmas, so I am hoping maybe he’ll take care of things then.
Either way, it’s progress! And now I can stop obsessing about whether or not he has a ring! 🙂

Not sure if it helps, but I believe you can easily turn a yellow gold ring into a white gold ring by applying a coating to it. I looked into doing this for one of my great-grandma’s rings and was told that it was easy to do and inexpensive

Oh how exciting. You don’t have big fingers because I wear a size 7 so I don’t think their big. I just love antique rings especially with antique diamonds. I can’t wait to see a pic soon.

@TealaB: I had no idea that could be done so easily! That’s very good to know.
Hopefully it won’t be too much longer now… 🙂

I hope you love it just the way it is! I’m glad you have options though! This would be nerve-wracking for me but I’m a control freak 🙂

Aww! I love that he was already thinking about his future with you, and that he was able to sweetly surprise you about wanting to use his grandmother’s ring. 🙂

@bryanneb61: Sounds like progress. TealaB is right, it’s an easy process, I even had a jeweler coated an earring for me free of charge.
I would find some sneaky way of letting him know this so when you get the final product its ready for wear. I’m sure getting it re-sized too is no big problem.

Oh yes, it can be re-sized and coated so easily. No problem! How exciting 🙂

Wow!! Sounds like he has it all worked out. All you have to do is stay calm. I know better said than done. Keep us posted on any more developments. ; )
