I mentioned this the other day: SO’s got a new job. Yippeee!!!! (original post can be found here: Eeep. Exciting stuff!!)
Anyway, it means he’s emigrating. Because of this we both felt it would be a good idea to hold a proper leaving party. Venue’s booked, invite list out (primarily through FB). Done! Within minutes people who he sees as close friends respond that they can’t go. A shame, but I’m not going to get mad at them, not a big deal and not necessarily their fault; what is a big deal is the reason why: a lot of his friends know each other through a social (gamers) group that meet up on a monthly basis (sometimes more), and it’s their event that night. (we’re maybe talking 30 people that he’s invited) Ok, fine, you booked it already. It’s your choice if you don’t want to say goodbye to my SO even though you may not see him for the next few years. I feel really bad for him, and he feels like no one cares. He’s normally so passive about these things but I can tell he’s torn up.
What made me really mad was that they then started complaining about it!!!! 1 person saying in CAPS (I wont do it now) “how can you have it one that night its the date of the <gamers group> gathering?” another “I can’t come because it’s <gamers group> event”.
SO said this “<gamers group> thing meant loads of people didnt come to my birthday either. I think it’s a conspiracy” (so passive aggresive lol) and someone had the cheek to put “its a sign you shouldnt go”. Uh, WHAT?!?! Yeah, SO should totally just not take the job offer because it intefers with your very frequent social event, because yeah SO emigrates every month! I was pleased someone defended it and said “Or that people should put real life before games”.
I am so angry. SO is leaving. He is really really leaving. This isn’t a vacation. Maybe you’re not bothered about seeing him one last time but he is you! He’s moving to the other side of the world on his own (I am at uni a few more months) and you can’t even do him the courtesy of saying goodbye.
I swear I want to punch someone in the face.
