I’ve just purchased my first OPK (7 tests and 1 preg test) and want to begin our TTC journey!!!
Just a few questions, I’ve noticed I usually begin my fertile days 2 days after my period finishes.
I’ve been using FF and another app called Mobile MOM ovulation calculator. I personally find the MM more on point. As I’m able to write down exactly how long my cycles are.
So after this upcoming period, do I start taking the OPK tests immediately after my last day of my period?
Do I take a test each day or 2x’s a day? What’s the best way to do this? Do I only have sex on a day that it gives me a smiley?
I FELL SO DUMB LOL
And I don’t know all the abbreviations… So please dummy proof your explanations please 🙂

Nickig_4: how long are you cycles normally?
I use the clear blue advanced ovulation test & I’m normally on a 31 Day cycle so I started testing at CD12 didnt get a solid smiley until CD16. Honestly the best thing that has really helped me is temping using a basal body Thermometer. You can really pin point when you ovulated after a postive OPK. I’m on my 7th month TTC and I’ve only now started really temping on the dot and it really has helped me a lot.

Nickig_4: Like PP said, the best way to know when to start is to know how long your cycle normally lasts. If you have a 28 day cycle, assuming a 12 day luteal phase, that means you O on day 16. So in that case I would start testing on Day 12.
I use the advanced ovulation test too, and I only test once a day with the first pee after my longest sleep. You should have sex at least every other day once you see a flashing smiley, but a bit of warning that sometimes your hormones can surge very quickly or very slowly. For example, I’ve had months where I had 4 days of flashing smileys before a solid smiley. This last month it went from an empty circle to a solid smiley, no flashing days at all. So basically, if you know you’re nearing your normal ovulation time, I would probably do it every other day while you wait for the smiles to pop up, just in case. Oh, and once you get a solid smiley, stop testing. They stay on the test for 48 hours.
There are going to be a lot of bees who encourage you to temp, but personally speaking I’ve avoided temping and I got pregnant 2 out of 3 cycles trying (unfortunately both miscarriages, but that’s not due to my method of confirming ovulation at all). I’m super happy with the smileyface tests, but I have read warnings that it may not work for those with PCOS which is why some folks report having issues with them.

I’m on a 26 day cycle. With periods lasting 7 days. So if i’m expecting my period to come on November 10th. So lets say its to stop on November 17th…. When would I start testing/ovulating? Like as soon as I’m done my period do I start Ovulating?

Andthepupmakes3: do you know what the cause maybe if it goes straight to solid smiley instead of flashing first?
