So I sent out my invites and am now receiving calls asking what the attire will be. I dont want anyone showing up in jeans but I also dont want tuxs. My husband and boys will be in gray suits. I would like the women a little dressy and men in slacks and shirts. Would that be semi-formal or cocktail attire or other?? Thanks in advance

With the addition of the poll, lemme ask you a question? How fashion saavy is your crowd. Almost everyone realizes that semi-formal means show up looking respectable. I think a smaller set of people will understand cocktail. Slightly larger than the set that gets “casual chic” or “smart dressy”. Why not make it easiest for your guests and go with the tried and true, semi?

i read somewhere you can call it business casual. i thought that was more for work functions. but it’s another idea.

I was thinking of saying semi-formal. My only concern is that my friends will really bring it when I say semi formal (like winter formal in high school) vs my older family members that would wear a dressy pant suit for women and guys in pants boots and a button up(black jeans to them are dressy). Its really hard, and I thought maybe cocktail attire would be an in between?? I really suck at this
