Honestly, I wasn’t going to have them done, but a friend of mine has offered to take them for us for free to build her photography portfolio. Since they’re free, why not? FH and I need some good pictures together. We only have about 14 or 15, and those were taken 5 months into our relationship (we’ve been together 3 years now).

@BridieBea:  I can’t speak for other bees, but our photography package came with an engagement session.  I don’t know if I would’ve done it otherwise, to be honest; however, I am glad I did.  It gives you a chance to get to know your photographer, kind of like a hiar/make-up trial.

I can understand why people want engagement photos. However, for us, we didn’t find them necessary (we’ve been together for a long time) and we’d rather use the money for something else. Plus, we’re having a destination wedding, so we wouldn’t have been able to use our same photographers anyway.

Often times, I think they’re used for STD’s. However, Fiance and I are not doing STD’s, and we wanted them because we’ve never had professional pictures taken of us, and (besides our weddng pictures), we want some nice ones to hang in our place.

Hey, a Syracuse & Rochester bride in this thread! Hi neighbors! πŸ˜€

How about a simple answer, they are fun! πŸ™‚

Fun and you get great pictures without a rush from a timeline and regular clothes. πŸ™‚

I personally have not one good picture of FH and I..

I think of quite a few reasons….

  1. Engagement photos were included in our photography package
  2. We are using our favorite ones for our save the dates
  3. It is a great way to see if you really like the photographer’s work
  4. The same reason you take any other photos, to document some point in your life….we have been together for 9 years and rarely have nice photos of us taken together. I am happy to have them so that when I look back in 15-20-30 years from now, I will have nice photos (other than wedding ones) to look at and show our future children.

So that you can look back at them many many years later and fondly remember how young you both looked and see what you looked like without gray hair and wrinkles!!  LOL

We did them soley for our save the dates. Honestly without being mean I will just say I was disappointed in the photog and she was a friend of a friend so it wasn’t worth saying anything. I was able to find a few of the hundreds of pictures that I liked and edit them myself in photoshop. However, I’m so glad we did them because we learned the expensive lesson to not skimp on photography. I am splurging on our wedding photographer guilt free! We also learned that if you feel like a pose or your hair looks weird, it probably does, even if the photographer is telling you how awesome you both look… πŸ™‚

um. everything besides food and shelter and other basic necessities are “pointless”. :p what’s the point of a wedding, even? you can fully get married without the party, and have everyone that matters know about it. so why the whole shebang, the dress, the cake, the flowers, all that effort and money…

because it’s fun!! and we jumped on the chance to fly to a foreign country to take our engagement photos. πŸ™‚ it was so worth it! we got to travel, try new foods, sight-see, etcetc… pointless? no wayyy

Most of the brides I’ve worked with use engagement photos for either their Save The Dates, their wedding site or as their holiday card image in the the first year. Can be a very fun and relaxed way to get comfortable with your photographer (anc vice-versa!) before the big day as well!
