I’m actually considering having a step of sorts at the ceremony for me to stand on, so I can look my future husband in the eyes at the same level. … he’s 6’4″ and I’m about 4’11”.

@bunnyharriet:  I totally got wrapped up in the alterations process today and forgot to take photos! What we ended up deciding to do was take out the very bottom ruffle on the dress. I’m not sure it’s obvious in the photo but the last ruffle is actually 2 layers of pleated silk organza ruffle – the very bottom layer is shear and is about 2.5 – 3 inches longer than the other more opaque ruffle which lies on top of it. By removing that very bottom ruffle the dress becomes the perfect length. This cost me $175 which seems silly just to cut off some fabric…

We also added a bustle for $100, added a small amount of crinoline to the back $50, and the dress is being taken in slightly at the bust $75

Finally, they are velcroing (is this a word?) my longline bra to the dress so that it helps support the dress and the dress doesnt keep slipping down all night to expose the bra. $25

    Total – $425 + tax. Ouch…  Oh well, after what I’ve already spent what’s a few hundred more…  Smile

My next fitting is 9/14 – I’ll try to remember to take photos and post them. Thanks for everyone’s advice and kind words – I truly appreciate it.

I’m almost 5’2 and have 4 inch heels on.  It still needs to be hemmed a little bit more.

I’m 5’2 and paid extra for the hollow to hem measurement.  Dress was made to my exact height with heels on.

@bunnyharriet:  Thanks!  I’m wearing tall shoes!  I think I’m pretty evenly proportioned, but most people look at me and are like…youre SHORT…i guess most of my friends are taller.

This is such a great thread! I was having second thoughts about purchasing a dress with a little volume on the bottom, but now I’m seeing so many of you pull it off well that it makes me feel a lot better!

I would love to hear what kinds of alterations you all had to do. There’s obviously the hem for most of us, but I’m getting the zipper changed to a corset & they recommended lowering the neckline because it hits me a little high, especially under my arms. Have any of you had to do that? I’m also thinking of changing it to a sweetheart. I’m a little anxious to see how it will turn out, but my wedding isn’t until next summer and I have to wait. Do you guys have any other tips or recommendations for alterations that help with our stature?
