How’s your libido been since coming off BCP? MUCH better. It was actually immediate, too– pretty much as soon as my withdrawal bleed stopped. It’s just SO much better, for that reason alone I don’t ever want to go back on the pill. I didn’t realize how off I was until i stopped taking the pill.
How have your periods been while TTC? Really heavy? Crazy cramps? Nutso PMS? Actually, not nearly as bad as I feared. My periods were super heavy, very bad, cramps, and long, before I went on the pill, which was a big factor for going on it in the first place. Like, lay in bed all day with a heating pad, bottle of Advil, and tea bad. Since going off (about 3 months ago) my periods are definitely heavier than they were on the pill, but really not that bad at all, and the cramps are a little worse than on the pill, but nothing that a couple of advil on the first day doesn’t fix. I haven’t reached for a heating pad yet.
The PMS is worse in that I’m definitely moodier before my period, but I’m also happier the rest of the time. Like @takemyhand: it feels like a fog lifted off my emotions, although I’m not quite as snappish as I was.
Any other nasty symptoms or great benefits you feel like sharing? Menstrual migraines! They are seriously brutal. I had a bunch the first month off, now I just seem to get one or two days of them a month but I haven’t figured out exactly when in my cycle. I’m charting my temps and can see that I’m ovulating, which is great, and have noticed some symptoms around that as well (sore boobs, etc).
As far as not going off until you are ready to TTC, you just have to be careful with other protection until you are ready. Lots of people go off the pill without getting pregnant, it’s just that it’s harder because you got used to the convenience of not worrying about it. For us, we use a combo of condoms, pulling out, and charting (after I confirm ovulation with my temps, we feel safe), but we would be totally fine with getting pregnant a couple of months ahead of schedule.
