that’s budget conscious!
I feel we have looked at every option and none are the one!
I want to have ceremony on grass! with trees! like a park or nature setting and my Dear Fiance wants an ocean view (not on the beach per se). Feel we are finding one or the other or too $$
Looked at: Crystal cove, San Clemente Historic Cottage, hotel laguna, balboa inn (really feeling against the hotel weddings), Newport Dunes, case romantica (too $ for just venue)
Also we are vegetarian so any place that has on site caterers would love them to know what they are doing!
Thanks for reading and looking forward to hearing some suggestions!

The wedding bowl in La Jolla is gorgeous! Probably already booked since your wedding is in peak season and less than a year away, though.

I will look into the wedding bowl! THANKS!!!!!
Yah I would do JoP if I could! but Dear Fiance wants the hoopla. so trying to keep it simple (so this year as to not have it result in craziness). would love a park wedding but not all city parks allow weddings, alcohol, or have electricity. it’s like a mish mash!!!
oh forgot to mention, guests less than 50, and would love to DIY a lot of options! and ceremony/reception in same place (first choice)

@Carmichaeljr: Try cabrillo marina in san pedro. http://www.cymcabrillo.com it’s inexpensive and is right on the water, has a lawn and a concrete area with huge shaded trees, even has fountains in what we used as the cocktail area. The hall is right next to it, french doors, kitchen, and restrooms it’s not like a typical ugly ballroom.
The whole thing was $2700 but we got the $500 deposit back..pricing changes with the time of year and day of course but it’s not expensive. Has tons of free parking. We did the ceremony under the trees…here’s a pic

If you don’t mind traveling to Camarillo, check out Tropical Paradise. Trust me when I tell you the photos online don’t do justice to how beautiful the venue is. Make an appt and check it out.

I am a vegan bride in CA. Best way to save money on food is to have a family style Mediterranean. I know several places that will charge $15 a plate with lots of food.

- Wedding: September 2012 - Bailey's Palomar Resort
Check out the Soledad Club! http://www.soledadclub.com/san-diego-special-events-venue.htm
It’s on a hill in Pacific Beach, and has great views of the beach, Mission Bay and Downtown. I’ve been to a couple weddings there, one where the ceremony was downstairs/outside, and the other where the ceremony was across the street at Kate Sessions Park (I preferred it this way as a guest! It is literally across the street so to me that’s the same location). And Based on the weddings I’ve been to, I’m pretty sure they allow you to choose any caterer.

Have you thouht about any military venues? If you know someone in the military they can sponsor you to have a wedding on a base. The Admiral Kidd Club (on a navel base) is right on the San Diego Bay and is breathtaking. Also try the Torrey Pines Gliderport and the Marina Village. All with an ocean view, on grass and affordable. Good luck!
