I am a complete newbie here on weddingbee and am already in love with the blog and the message boards!
I got engaged on March 26, 2010 so it has been almost 3 months. I met my fiance in law school. We just graduated this May and are living in California. Even though we will be living out west for a while we are planning on getting married in NYC since that is where I’m originally from and it is where pretty much everyone I know lives.
We are currently studying for the bar exam which is absolutely the worst thing I have ever had to endure. Because of the hectic schedule we haven’t started a stitch of real planning yet. I’ve got some general ideas floating around in my head but nothing has actually been settled or planned. Like seriously zilch you guys. I haven’t even told the girls I want to be in my wedding party anything. No kinda sorta date. Nada!
Le sigh…how I long to start planning!!!
Anyway, that will come in August once the wretched bar exam is over.
For now here are some photos and a HELLO!!!

Hello, congrats, and welcome!
May I offer some advice already? When you’re ready to pick a date, make sure it’s at least a year out, because you will seriously need that much time to reserve your venues and services, find a dress, etc etc.
Is that your engagement photo I see? Luv it!

Welcome! I know you are anxious to start your planning. I remember those days…they seem so long ago. Now I am a one-month-away-from-wedding, so-sick-of-planning-I-can’t-stand-it kinda bride! Enjoy these final moments of unwedding-planningness. At some point you may find yourself saying something like this to your fiance, “Oh, NOW I get why people elope!”
Once you do start your planning, do your best to enjoy it. There are some moments that are very fun…others that are just ugly. Just keep it all in prospective, and keep reminding yourself of the reason you are going through all of this…at the end of it you will be marrying your man! I have found it also helps to book a totally awesome honeymoon…so in those stressful moments you have something wonderful to look forward to!
Good luck! I hope this post isn’t too much of a downer!

@MzMarzipan: I have a few friends getting married and have heard tons of war stories. I am anxious to start planning but also totally aware I will probably want to run for the hills at some point! Ahhh I just want all the stuff I need to do now to be over and done with. I will totally make the best of the down time before wedding planning. I’ve got grand plans for my post bar exam free time.
How exciting that you are one month away!!!

BTW- Beautiful ring!
And to the above poster re. booking everything 1 year in advance, don’t feel major pressure to do that. We will have had only an 8 month engagement. While there were times when I felt some mild stress/pressure because of that, overall I am so glad we didn’t have a year…that just mean 4 extra months of stress and wedding planning! We were able to accomplish everything just fine..and we were able to book every vendor we wanted.

@Welcome! And oh man that seems almost mean to propose right before the bar!! haha. When I was studying for the bar I wanted ANY excuse to slack off… wedding planning would’ve been the end of me 🙂

@MzMarzipan: Hi date twin! Not to get away from OP but I’m totally agreeing with you on the boring stuff! Seating charts, calling people who didn’t rsvp, having to get more of everything because of extra guests…not as fun as the rest of it.

@MzMarzipan: LOL I hear ya on the long-term stress thing! Actually what I did was secure my venues, photographer, DJ, etc and then take it easy for a few months, since most of the details didn’t need to get hashed out until a few months before the wedding. It probably depends on where you live and how fast vendors get booked. I had several venues, photographers, and hotels turn me down because they were already booked a year in advance for my date!

Congrats and good luck on the bar! and i totally agree with Corgi, i’m not sure i would’ve been able to resist wedding planning as a procrastination tool, so i’m impressed! It’ll all be over soon though, and then onto the fun stuff. One month to go! 🙂
Oh and beautiful ring!!
