My mom and dad couldn’t agree to he chose the first name and she chose the middle name.
He ended up leaving, she hated my first name so all my life I’ve gone by my middle name thus leading to a lifetime of corrections and confusion to those I meet.

Not sure what alternate girls’ names were… but if I was a boy, my dad wanted to name me Giancarlo. Yikes!

My mom wanted to name me Amanda but my dad won out. If I had been a boy my name would have been Joesph and my sister would have been Benjamin. I wish my parents had been as cool as some of yours and picked a real unusual one like Aspen.

This thread is awesome! I think my Mom liked “Stephanie” for a girl, but my last name starts with S and she didn’t like the sound of it together (and neither do I). Instead, I got to be one of a zillion girls named Jennifer in the 80s. 🙂
It’s weird, because I’ve been called “Stephanie” accidentally by MANY people in my life. People who forgot my name, strangers….interesting! Maybe I look like one.

I almost got named Erin. My name is Lindsay now 🙂
If I was a boy, my name would have been Scott or Brian.

My dad was dead set on my name for a good year or so before I was born, so no “almosts” there. Had I been a boy, my dad wanted Ira. :-/ The other boy’s name that was in the running is actually DH’s name…
