I am new on here and thought I would say hi as well as share with you my proposal story.
I have been with my boyfriend for almost 2 and a half years and it had always been my dream to go to New York and we book a week long trip here (last week).
We were coming to the end of our trip and had planned an afternoon in Central Park with a picnic. My boyfriend was acting strange saying he wanted to find a nice, quiet area in central park to stop and eat rather than just on a bench like I had planned.
We eventually found a nice area on the grass overlooking a pond. My boyfriend then read a poem he said he had been working on which spoke about our time together etc. He isn’t someone who has ever written anything like poetry before so it really moved me that he had made the effort to write something! The poem ended with – “All thats left to say is ….. Will you marry me?”. By then I already had tears in my eyes so you can guess what my reaction was like! He then pulled out a gorgeous ring which he said had taken him months to chose.
It really was the most amazing day of my life and I thank my now fiance very much for making it so.
Now its wedding plans! We have decided that the plan is to get married in 2015 sometime to give us chance to save up etc. So really, I am starting planning ideas now as I can’t wait!!!! How long have you ladies left it between getting engaged and getting married? I don’t know many people who have got married recently so didn’t know if 2 years was an average time to wait in between getting engaged and getting married?

- Wedding: October 2014 - UK
@Fazza1717: Congratulations! What a lovely story!
And another UK Bee on the boards! 😀 My engagement was 2 years when it started as well (although think we just clocked the 18 month mark), I think that’s fairly normal over here.
Would love to see pictures of the ring!

I think 2 years is pretty average… I have had less (one year enagement) but at the same time i have kind of been planning/thinking about marrying my man for ages!!

There is nothing wrong with a 2 year engagement. It would probably be smart for us, too, but I’m not sure I can wait that long. 😉

How exciting! That sounds like he put a lot of effort into it! Can we see the ring? 🙂

Awe! How super sweet and romantic! Congatulations to you both!!!
I was engaged for two years before I got to start planning.. we saved for a long time, and finally 8 months ago.. I got to start planning! My wedding is now 6 weeks away! June 26th! Its been a blast! And because we waited, Ive been able to plan the wedding of my dreams without much worry about finances!!! I feel like i looked at flowers and dresses for centurys though! LOL!
But two years is just perfect, by the time youre ready for wedding planning, all the waiting will all be worth it!
I feel like because we had to wait a bit, we are even more excited! My Fiance isnt a cryer, lol… but I have a feeling there might be a few tears 😉
Congrats again! You are going to have a beautiful wedding!!!!

@Fazza1717: Hello fellow UK bee, congratulations! What an exciting proposal!
We are having an almost 2 year engagement as well – we got engaged in August 2012 and we’re getting married in July 2014. I’m still a student this year so getting married this summer wouldn’t have worked for us. By the time we get married I will have been working for a few months. And then we decided on a garden venue and we were told the flowers were best in late june/early july. So that decided our date! It’s a long time but actually we’ve been so busy with other things (moving in together, starting new jobs and courses) that the first 8 months or so have just flown by. I think you’ll be fine.
