Hello all, brand new here, but I’ve been reading posts and your generosity with one another has given me courage to write. The good things – engaged to a wonderful man who is everything I’d hope for, who has a family that has embraced me and who I adore as well. The difficult things – I have no family and just a few friends who will attend our wedding. I read a post from a few months ago that I really related to, someone feeling like the wedding will be more like a family reunion for fiancee’s family, and I struggle with that feeling. It’s hard to go through all the planning/thinking/dreaming of my wedding without a mom, it’s incredibly sad to me to think of taking that walk down the aisle without a father.
I think/hope/believe that it’s a process, and that as I go through it the grief will come and go, and I just need to keep sight of the fact that I’m joining a wonderful family.
Thanks for giving me a space where I could ‘say’ that.

I am so sorry 🙁
Again, you will be joining a wonderful family, but it will never replace your family. Peace and good luck on your journey! *Hugs*

I’m so sorry that you have to go this alone without your family, but I think you hit the nail on the head when you said you would be joining a wonderful family. Try not to think of it as a family reunion for his family, rather a welcoming party of a new daughter/granddaughter/sister into his family. And you’re going to be gaining a whole new set of parents, grandparents, siblings, etc. by marrying him.
Your wedding day should be an extremely happy day, and wherever your family is, I’m sure they’re thinking of you or looking down on you and wishing all the best.

I’m sorry, I know how much a family means during wedding time. I think it’s perfectly normal to morn the loss of them not being there. You are joining another great family and that doesn’t always happen. When you get down just think of joining your fiance’s family and how great it is going to be a part of that.
