Say you’re on antibiotics or are having clotting issues.

Just order a coke. Maybe it has booze and maybe it doesn’t. Who knows?

Personally, I don’t think most people are paying attention to what you drink and won’t think twice. Think coming up with an excuse would just draw attention to it.

Ask the bartender to put a garnish on a soda.

are you driving?  That’s good enough reason.  Or just say you’re taking a month off from alcohol to recover from the holidays.  I drank a splash of red wine or cranberry with seltzer in a wine glass a few times.  It looks like Rose wine.

MsNightOwl9:  Get there first. Order a club soda with a splash of cranberry in a cocktail glass. Looks like a cocktail. Ginger beer also works

MsNightOwl9:  Yeah, some women quietly ask the waiter/bartender to keep their drinks virgin even if they order a cocktail. A fancy cola/juice will look like a cocktail. A lemonade with a slice of lime could look like a G&T.

You could be on a health kick? Medical reason? It all depends on what will work best for you. I know my family would find it strange if I didn’t have alcohol. I’d need to go down the medication route.

Many congratulations on your pregnancy! I wish you a very happy and healthy nine months 🙂

You could say you have an upset stomach and it’s not the best idea to drink alcohol.

Ginger ale in a pint glass – looks like hard cider.

Or, tell them you are on a cleanse (but then only eat carrot sticks.)

You shouldn’t have to “fake drink” or tell anyone anything to justify your choice  of beverages. Just order whatever non-alcoholic beverage you want to order, while others can order whatever they want. If someone is interested enough to inquire as to why you’re not drinking alcohol, you don’t need to explain yourself to anyone. People may assume whatever they want to assume, but no one will know for sure that you’re pregnant at this stage unless you tell them.

if it’s an event at a house there is options like nonalcoholic wine or champagne or even beer. Going out I would either fake sickness and order something like tea. Or I would tell people I just wasn’t in the mood and was tired.

“Not drinking right now” as new year’s resolutions/weight loss/too many holiday parties

I used the old antibiotics issue during a work outing.  It worked well enough.  When I announced a month or so later I got a few comments on not drinking that night though.
