FI has a family history of Heart Disease and he was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure earlier this year (at 25). We’ve been talking more about being healthier and exercising more, which is important for both of us since I’m just on the cusp of being diagnosed with Hypothyroidism.
I read about the DASH Diet, which was designed for people with heart problems and high blood pressure. I’d like to try and incorporated some of their recipes into our diets (slowly) and was wondering if anyone had some recipes or knew of websites where I could find some. I know the basics (more produce and lean meats ; less salt overall), but could use a bit of guidance before moving forward.

@LoggerHead91207: my FI’s mom has severe hypertension. So, he was diagnosed with dangerously HBP at 30. I don’t know if it was the excercise or the diet (he didn’t do much of either before) that changed it, but it’s within normal range now.
The meds only helped temporarily and gave him severe migraines. As for diet, he switched to the basics that you mentioned (was well below 1500mg sodium daily), and only ate “clean”, unprocessed foods. Immediately his health changed. Almost instantaneously. I don’t think it has to be very complex, stressful or limiting. As long as he follows those basics and incorporates cardio into his daily regimen, he should be able to see improvement at such a young age.

I’m not sure if this is anything you would be interested in, but I recently joined a health and nutrition company called Genesis Pure. We have a product for cardio health and someone I personally know has noticed a major improvement in his high blood pressure since being on it. He is completely off of all meds and it has really improved his health.
