PS If it helps, I’ve just looked this up online, and less common reasons for a false negative test include being overweight (which can also cause you to test negative on a blood test), being very well hydrated, and being on certain medications.

Some of the common medications which influence test results can be found here: http://www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/2308.aspx?categoryid=54

This site shows you that you are far from alone… many women get false negatives:

Of course, you could also have just had a late implanter, which wasn’t producing enough HCG to prevent a breakthrough bleed (hence your ‘period’).

Either way, congratulations!

mazzoffee:  Glad everything worked out!  I was pretty shocked when I went in at what was supposed to be my 12w NT scan only for them to tell me I was 16weeks pregnant.  Whoa! I obviously never took a test early because I thought it was my period (when it must have been implantation bleeding), so I only found out I was pregnant when I missed my “next” period and by then I was really 8weeks along.  So it happens!

mazzoffee:  congrats!! So glad it turned out to be a timing issue, not something bad. I’m a March mama too! A few weeks behind you–6 weeks in a few days.  You are very lucky! I’ve had a few waves of nausea–not fun.
