I’ve often felt uncomfortable reading some of the threads where someone’s ring that they really liked was slammed also. I vaguely recall a thread in which a newbie was excited about a large carat diamond ring,(huge cluster/illusion setting,) which she clearly loved and was proud of,  but that poor girl, her ring, and her taste were slashed, trashed, and smashed, when a simple “congrats, that’s lovely”would’ve sufficed.  The thread was closed, but not until many many pages of insults were posted.  This hasn’t happened in the 7 months I’ve been a member, it was before my time here, so I don’t actually think it’s common around here.  And I’m sooooo glad I didn’t let it stop me from posting or run me away because. ……

Most of the time,  here on the bee, people are genuinely nice and happy to share in the excitement of another’s engagement.  Most of these lovely bees are full of compliments, advice, and knowledge.   just try to overlook the super negative/plain rude stuff. It bothered me alot at first too, but now I come here almost daily to look at the gorgeous bling, read the happy engagement stories, and even help other bees with questions, polls,  etc. I actually look forward to it and consider the bees my online friends and buddies. I was going /am going through some pretty hard stuff a while back, and came here to talk and vent about it, and these ladies, who don’t even know me, really had lots of positive and encouraging words for me, and genuine concern.  It may sound silly to some, but talking/posting to them helped me through a rough time, and I’ll always appreciate the time these gals took to be kind and supportive.

My long winded point is. .. give it a chance,  most of us are nice people,  and Weddingbee is a pretty cool place, hope you come to enjoy it as much as I do. .. and happy wedding planning!  And of course, here’s my sterling silver half carat total weight cluster ring from. … gasp!  Walmart!  Lol!  Not everyone’s cup of tea, but I really like it.  It’s very sparkly,  and it’s hard to capture in a photo.

Generally, people are asking how other people feel about their cluster, and some people reply that they don’t like them. I feel like, in that context, it’s okay to give that opinion. However, I do agree that needless attacking is not okay, and sometimes that does happen. I have a pear, and lots of people don’t like pears. Everything is personal preference. I do have a rhr that is invisible set, and I like it.

luckyladylaterinlife35:  Was that the one where the ring was a 5ct cluster? Because I remember that. There were some awful comments on that one.

I also think it’s ok to say “it’s not my style, but I love it on you”. There’s a ton of stuff I don’t wear from types of clothes to certain haircuts and everything else, and even though I recognise something isn’t for me personally, I can still rave about it being awesome and loving it on someone else.  I can also see that my choices are not everyone’s cup of tea either.  When it comes to chatty or advice seeking threads I think it’s fine to express personal preferences AND contribute something to the conversation. As long as your sole reason for posting is to add something not just make a comment that’s hurtful then I think it makes for an interesting, and properly useful board – especially when you actually want to gather opinions on things.  As a PP put very well, it’s a great board. And as for the OP I bet when you post a pic of your ring when you get it and comment as you have with all you passion clearly evident, a load of bees will totally adore that you’re so happy with it and be only too keen to ‘whoop’ with you πŸ™‚

MrsAL2012:  I think so,  but it’s been months ago that I read it. Whichever one it was, by the end of it, i was upset for the op, so I can see how it would be off putting for a new bee to read.:(

besides being really large, I didn’t think the ring in question was bad at all, just big.  Some people just love big sparkle!  I’m one of em, lol! ; ) I wanna see more ladies. .keep em coming!

Here’s mine..it’s not gaudy or chunky but I often wonder if people on here think I’m trying to “pass the center off as a large diamond.” But whatever, I love it, and it sparkles amazingly. Most importantly, I love it because I get to marry my best friend and he is beyond proud of it:

GymnastQt009:  your ring is divine!  I’ve never understood the comments about “trying to pass off a cluster/quad setting as a larger stone. .so what if multiple stones give more coverage and sparkle than a solid one. ….I say that’s smart shopping!  πŸ˜‰ don’t see a thing wrong with it. I actually am completely enamored with a quad type ring from zales.  Gonna find a picture of it to post .. op wanted lots of pics, right? Lol!

I love cluster rings. I think some of the prettiest rings that get posted are clusters. Hoorayloulou’s flower cluster is one of my favorite rings on here. Do I love every cluster? No, but I don’t love every halo, bezel, or 3stone either. Pretty much the only thing I always like are solitaires. That’s because aside from diamond shape, they all look the same, LOL.

One of the things I love about hanging out on the ring boards (other than looking at all the gorgeous sparkle and bling!) is how everyone has such different taste. What I like isn’t going to be the same thing that the next person likes, and vice versa. But I love the diversity in ring settings and stone choices and styles. I think they are all beautiful, and I really enjoy sharing the excitement of all the other ladies on this board.

Mine isn’t a cluster, but it has invisibly set princess cuts on the setting. And I’ve been told it falls into the “chunky” and “gaudy” categories. At first, it bothered me … But now, I realize I don’t much care. I fell in love with the setting from the first moment I saw it. I actually saved a picture of it (just the setting, without a center stone) on my phone for months. So, when DH gifted it to me for our anniversary, it was like a little dream come true.

longtimemrs:  it’s easy for me to see why you fell in love with that setting. .. it’s soooo pretty! I’ve actually got a screen shot of it in my photo gallery.  (creepy)  I’ve got a thing for invisible set diamonds though,  and have had a few,  but I often buy/sell/trade/etc to help finance my jewelry collecting hobby and I don’t have them any more, but intend to replace , (one day that is), the quad ring, the cluster, and the platinum marquise ring that I traded in for other pieces. I miss them a lot:(
