My CD bloodwork showed my prolactin level at 28.6 which is outside the normal range by a bit. Will be meeting with my doc next week to go over the results, so will let you know then!

@MrsMcGyro:  Yes and I am a success story! Last July I had bloodwork done and it came back with really high prolactin.  After extensive testing they found nothing but high prolactin.  My doctor suggested I try to eat healthier.  I was getting married in December so I planned on dieting any way so I sucked it up and gave it a try.  I went low-carb, low-sugar, high protein and lost 30 lbs in 4 months.  When I went back to get more bloodwork done my prolactin levels were much lower.  My endo told me that I might still suffer infertility and to get off my BC to see if I could even have a regular period.  Well I did, and one month after that I became pregnant.  I am terrified to gain the weight back in pregnancy, but my doctor swears that the weight loss helped lower my prolactin.  Feel free to PM with other questions.

@MrsMcGyro: My doc said that my numbers were slightly out of the normal ranges, and has ordered additional testing for me on prolactin specifically. I’ll be doing it tomorrow. Will keep you posted once the bloodwork for that comes back.

Sometimes medicine seems like detective work. Slow anxiety inducing detective work….

Hope we get answers soon 🙂

@MrsMcGyro:  They tested my levels on and off the pill- high both times.  Good luck with your search.  I did get an MRI to rule out any tumors on the pituitary gland- have you done that?  They are not something to panic about and usually very treatable, but it was a releif to rule that out.

Hi ladies,

Long time lurker here with a question related to this old thread. I’m not yet TTC but have been having long, albeit regular cycles since coming off the pill in December. I had my annual exam and she ran a bunch of tests for PCOS and other conditions that could cause long cycles, and the only thing that came back abnormal was slightly elevated prolactin – she said the cutoff for normal for this lab was 23.3, and I was 24.4. She referred me to the RE for their practice, but I can’t get an appointment to see her until September.

In reading about slightly elevated prolactin online, I see that stress, exercise, and anything that could stimulate your nips could result in a slightly high level. Any thoughts on whether it’s worth trying to just get retested sometime before September? Anyone have anything to add from a similar experience? She mentioned tumor as one cause, which is always frightening, but said with such a low level of elevation she didn’t think it was likely.

Thank you in advance for any help you may have!
