Was telling the jewler at a well known jewelry store that my ring is a Moissanite.
He literally almost died.
I was asking about getting a band with channel set moissanites, and he said “Oh you don’t want that, moissanites look so ugly.” I smiled big and politely replied “well my center stone you were just complementing is a moissanite”. he then proceeded to offer me a $1700 band for like $800.
I am suprised they didn’t catch on when they cleaned my FMIL’s diamond, and it sparkled really pretty, and then they cleaned my moissy, and literally it was blinding and casting rainbows across the store.
Anyone else have funny reactions to telling people you have a moissanite?
btw, I LOVE MY MOISSANITE!!!!

Funny story! A lot of people are surprised when I tell them, and usually very interested, but I suppose I’ve not been in jewellery shops much to get a pro’s reaction. I think I’d be too scared to point out they’d inadvertently dissed my ring. I’d probably be like, “Yeah, those moissies… Sooo ugly, I know,” and then leave and cry.
But yes, holy rainbow power. You’d think it’s easy to tell from that. I absolutely love it.
And beautiful ring btw 🙂

I’m impressed you were so calm with that Bazinga you delivered. Jewelers telling me what I want when I’m there to trade cash for shinies and didn’t ask for their personal opinion is a pet hate. I’m all “you’re a shop, you sell things, get over yourself” :/ I’ve met too many who think selling something makes you an expert at it but the staff at PC world prove that wrong XD. I’ve been told some right rubbish “oh you don’t want palladium it’s softer than silver and the maintenance is hard” “What maintenance is this?” o_o
Did you buy the discount band? I wouldn’t unless it was way cheaper than the moissanite one. Spite is a powerful motivator

@MrsVanilla: i did not, I might though. Future Mother-In-Law wants to get a sparkly band for her ring, and she wants her favorite(only) DIL to have one too lol.
@Lalk2bee: My moissy is a 1ct unenhanced from moissanite and co. here is a picture of the detail.
@Jezika: After I mentioned that it was a moissy, and not a diamond, he kept dissing it like “you can trade in diamond worth, but your GEMSTONE has no worth” That made me upset for a second, but I laughed it off. Because he was definately impressed with it before he thought it was a moissy, which means it was just the “im a big bad jewlery store manager and you should spend money on a diamond that isn’t nearly as pretty as the ring you have now” kicking in. and Thank. I love my ring.
@Anardana: I haven’t decided if i want the band or not. The wedding band I have now is so comfortable. it fits me, like my personality and style. 🙂
