I’ve received two faint positive tests – latest one a bit darker (First Response) before AF (which is due this weekend). I think that is a good side I’m pregnant?! I’ll take another test this weekend and hopefully confirm with a darker line! I’ll make an appointment for a blood test next week too!
My issue is that i have a hair appointment tomorrow to highlight (blonde) my hair. I heard highlights are okay to get done, but my hair dresser always uses a toner afterwards too. Is this safe?
My hair dresser is going on her own maternity leave starting next week so i would really like to get my hair done tomorrow! Should i just let her know i ‘may’ be pregnant and see what she suggests in regards to the toner?

I am not a doctor, but from what I’ve heard highlighting isn’t that bad because not much of the chemical makes it to your scalp anyway. The biggest worry is the fumes in the salon.
I personally wouldn’t worry about it, but…I’m kind of lax on a lot of the awful strict things doctors scare women with.

I would just tell your hair dresser. I know foils are fine and the color just shouldn’t be applied directly to your scalp. But I don’t know about toner.
Also you need to let her know that you are pregnant because your hair can react to color differently. My highlights with the same color turned my hair gray the first time, but thankfully my hairdresser adjusted it. Also if she is going on maternity leave then she’ll be able to write down the exact process for whoever does your hair while she is out.

You can still color your hair while pregnant, the chemicals are not like they used to. I asked my doctor and also my colorist when pregnant both said thats fine.

I just had my whole head coloured two days ago (highlights, dye applied directly on my scalp AND toner) and am 5 weeks pregnant. I got the okay from my doctor and my hairdresser. I plan to continue to colour my hair every 8 weeks throughout my pregnancy. I don’t think it’s a big concern anymore. 🙂

Thanks for the advice everyone! I will bring it up with my hairdresser.
I’m just not sure what is in the toner, it goes all over the scalp and sometimes makes my head itchy! But i’m not sure how nice the blond comes out without the toner.. but i dont want to do anything risky either. I’ll see what she advices! Thanks!

Last time I had hillights I asked for a towel to cover my face… it was as much to keep from getting queasy from the smell as it was to avoid inhaling the fumes though.
