I only very recently became engaged and we are planning to get married in August 2015, so I have lots of time to find the right dress. I have yet to try on a wedding dress, but bought my first bridal magazine at the weekend and have fallen in love with Claire Pettibone and Jenny Packham dresses.
I especially like the look of the Spring 2012 Claire Pettibone Toulouse dress, or the Claire Pettibone Maiden dress in her continuing collection.
My wedding dress budget isn’t fixed yet, but it is likely to be around £1000. Therefore, the only chance I have of wearing one of these dresses would be if I could hire it or buy one second hand. I’ve seen similar dresses listed for hire at around £500 for 1 week.
I am hoping to go and try these dresses on in the next few weeks so that I know which size I would take in these designers. I am a UK street size 8-10 (37.5 inches at the widest point of my hips, 26.5 inch waist, 33.5 inch bust). If you are wearing a dress like this for your wedding and would consider selling it or hiring it out in time for August 2015, please message me!
Also, has anyone else hired or bought a second hand dress? How was your experience of this? Do you think it sounds like a realistic idea or should I be looking at far less expensive first hand options?

@LearCat23: I have heard nothing but wonderful things about preownedweddingdresses.com. If you haven’t found one cheap enough, you could also have a replica made! I’d check out Jasmine’s Bridal Shop!

@LearCat23: Keep your eye on the classifieds on here. Ebay will of course be worth checking on and sellmyweddingdress.c.uk looks good too. Happy planning and good luck in your search!

I think it’s definitely worth going and trying them on, especially since it’s going to be your first time trying on wedding dresses anyhow. Then you can examine the condition of the dresses, and you can reflect on how you feel about renting your wedding dress.
In case you should decide to purchase a less expensive option, here are some dresses similar to the Claire Pettibone, and Jenny Packham style:
Kitty Chen Brier Rose
Also a some of Claire Pettibone dresses look a little like Regency style dresses, so it might be worth checking out any vintage/consignment shops for Regency style dresses. Here’s an example of a bride who found her dress at a vintage shop. She fell in love with a piece of lace, and the owner was able to make her a vintage style dress from that piece of lace: http://thenaturalweddingcompany.co.uk/blog/2013/11/the-story-of-a-handmade-brides-stunning-antique-lace-edwardian-wedding-dress-from-lucy-says-i-do/
I also commented previously on a post with plenty of regency/austen inspired dresses under $2000, pictures, designer, and style names included
Also, apparently there are some vintage bridal fairs ^_^
