I live in San Francisco (and got married here) and hired a photographer based in Colorado, simply because I was in love with her work. It was no problem at all, and with a great photographer they can quickly scout a location.

I would recommend asking your prospective photographer how they handle out of town weddings, just to put your mind at ease. Mine flew in on Wednesday with her assistant (which was comforting that it was well in advance since it was a longer distance away) and we met up on Thursday for a quick e-shoot/get-to-know-you time before my Saturday wedding. She booked her own travel/hotel and built it in to our quote.

If you fell in love with their work and style I’d say you should talk to them and find out their pricing and fees!

You might also want to ask your venue or coordinator which photographers have worked in that area before. I just googled my venue name and “photography” to find a bunch of photographers that have shot there before.
