I think this is my first time starting a post on any board besides waiting I am still waiting, but small step in the right direction…SO’s father told us yesterday that if we wanted it, we could use his mother’s ring, which was otherwise just going to sit…realize that SO and I have been together for over 6.5 yrs, he is well aware that I am waiting impatiently for a proposal, but we are not the type that is going to ring shop together or talk about rings or anything of the sort. He’s aware I have a pinterest of rings that can show him my taste, but otherwise it’s going to be pretty much a total surprise to me whenever he buys it and does it. Anywho, with this info coming to light yesterday, we actually had a talk about it afterward, and he said he really wants to incorporate the stone in the ring (just the fact that he had any comment instead of just is big for me haha). The setting is definitely not my taste, and the stone is round, which is a shape I do not prefer…I was thinking maybe we could do that stone as a center stone and do a halo around so it looks like cushion. Something like this:
Thoughts on that idea? His dad doesn’t mind if we reset it or anything, he made the point that it isn’t going to be used otherwise. My other concern is if I had to estimate the stone size I would guess maybe 0.25 c? Unfortunately I don’t have a pic of it…I’m concerned what my options will be bc I was looking at halo settings yesterday online and it looked like they were fitting center stones of like 0.7 c and up. It’d be awesome if anyone has a halo ring to show me that has a center stone <0.5c! Anyone have any guesses for the size of the one in the pic above? I am no pro…thanks bees

DancinDarlin: I think a .25 isn’t possible for a halo they usually set .50’s and up. I know you’re excited for a ring but don’t settle if it’s something you do not like. I personally do not like rounds either and I tried my hardest to like them and I just couldn’t go for it. If you feel if this will make him purpose sooner and you’re willing to change you’re taste in the ring then go for it! Good luck

Hi, I think thats a great idea! I love the idea of repurposing the diamond and its much cheaper than going out and buying a whole new ring!
The great thing about a halo is that it makes the diamond look better. I have a .45 emerald cut diamond with a halo, and I love it. But emerald cuts face up bigger imo.

0.25 carats is quite small for that style. A halo might end up looking more like a cluster instead. It’s not a bad thing, but it probably won’t achieve quite the look you want. The one in the image is around 0.75 carats I’m guessing.

You can definitely find halo settings to fit a diamond ~.25 carats. It would not have the same look as the example you posted due to the smaller centre stone, but it can still be very pretty. There are plenty of smaller carat weight halos out there, and they can be very blingy ant pretty!
I had this three stone halo ring, the centre stone was about 0.25 carats, just to show an example.

bellaamore523: I’m thinking the same. Trying to have a clear mind and not pounce just because I want to get engaged..I am very sentimental and the ring I have to start is the ring I’m going to have in the end! Thanks! 🙂
FutureMrsHall15: That looks beautiful! Thanks 🙂
whimbrel: I see, thanks for the info 🙂
mrsmay07: Lovely! Thank you for showing me 🙂

If the stone is too small for a halo, perhaps you could use it for a flower/cluster setting.

I love the ring you posted. My future engagement ring has his grandmother’s diamond (around .34 carats) with a halo. I haven’t seen the ring in person but I did have a huge role in designing it so I can say that it didn’t look weird to have the smaller center stone.
Hopefully you won’t have to wait much longer!
