I just was looking at the airfare… Delta is 592 per person right now from NC, that is crazy, from Seattle it’s 1400! If you were going to plan to go on a honeymoon anyway, you would most likely spend the same amount just in different ways to be honest. The fact that they paid for you to stay at a nice place in Aruba is pretty generous. I would figure out a way to go. I’d probably even borrow money for flights and pay them back if it was me!

I hope your talk goes well, $2,000 is a lot of money and you shouldn’t spend that kind of money if you can’t afford it. There is no reason to go into debt for airfare for a honeymoon. Fiance and I don’t plan to spend over $1,000 for our honeymoon unless we can afford to go out of the country, you should not be forced to spend that much money just becasue they booked a trip without talking to you first.

Was it wrong for them to do this without talking to you about it? Absolutely. But personally, I would do what I had to and find $2k- even if it meant debt (if you have $800-$1000 for the honeymoon you were thinking of, this means even less debt). Seriously- it sounds like you’re getting an awesome honeymoon for a fraction of the price.

@Tiffner: Oh no! OP I really hope that this all works out for you. No matter which way you look at it they are pushing you (accidentally) to spend more than you are comfortable with.

I think you may need to have a chat with your inlaws. It sound like money is not a problem for them ( sking and aruba). Have you thought maybe to ask them for a loan for the airfares and to pay them back in small monthly incraments. They would probably prefer to do that than lose money to a hotel chain if they have to cancel the booking.
I don’t understand why they paid $40,000 for your FIs sisters weddings and your Fiance gets half a honeymoon. My parents are always really fair when it comes to something like that. If they cant afford to do something for all three of us then they won’t do it for any of us. (just an observation…porbably not a useful one!!!)
Good Luck……hope you find a way around it all.
