Ok so my FH cousin has been engaged for 7 years and has now decided to have her wedding just before ours (this is ok I am happy for them). I am just getting a little hurt by his family when we are all sitting together and they are saying “so and so you are going to be the most beautiful bride ever”, “your wedding is going to be the best ever” and my Future Mother-In-Law is even saying things like this when I am sitting right their!! am I being silly by feeling hurt?

Don’t take those words to much to heart. They are cliches that people say on auto pilot. It may be that she could actually use the boost in confidence. I really don’t believe they were saying you wouldn’t be a beautiful bride. I’m sure they were just trying to be supportive.

I can understand that being a little annoying. I’m guessing they’re just honing in on her before her wedding first. Once hers passes, they’ll say the same to you. Like the above poster said, people always feel the need to say that to brides.

My Future Sister-In-Law did the same sort of thing- she had been engaged since March 2010 and didn’t start planning her wedding until this January when we told people we were getting married. She *had* to go first so her wedding was a few weeks ago and because she didn’t use her whole 2.5 year engagement to plan, her wedding was a bit unorganized. Beautiful wedding but it was clear and appearant that she didn’t put much thought into some items.
That said, let her go first, cause when it is OVER— it is OVER and you will still be wedding planning and all that “attention” will be flocking to you.
