I would do Save-The-Date Cards NOW!!! (Assume you mean Labor Day 2008?)  I think you can potentially get more guests than you might think, as they will clearly have some time off.  But you do need to get to them before they make their plans.  If they already have plane tickets and reservations by the time they get your invitation, they probably won’t cancel (unless they are really, really good friends).

I am getting married on Monday Sept 1. I was getting RSVP’s before I sent the STD.  Sort of funny.  Depending on your guests situation – namely children.  You could have a lot of people show up.

I think maybe a bit earlier than normal, esp for Out of Town guests. I like long weekend weddings. yes you can’t go on a vacation but if you travel at least you get to enjoy wherever the wedding is as oppose to flying in late Fri, have few hrs in the morning before the wedding, wake up Sunday and basically have to  head over to the airport. with extra day you can get to know the location better ( there is almost always something interesting to see).

I’m getting married on Memorial Day weekend (Labor Day Weekend is my birthday), and we sent out Save-The-Date Cards in early October.

It’s a busy time of year, with it being the start of the summer.  I’d send them out ASAP.

You could do an E-STD if you’ve exausted your funds, to remind people. I’m up here in MN and Labor Day is totally Cabin time for everyone, if I was getting married then and didn’t send out the STD I would have a small wedding!!!

Don’t assume people know and remember your wedding date like you do. I have a friend getting married two weeks before me, and she can’t even remember when I’m getting married! Heck, my dad asked me 2 times last month! People alway want something to double check – even if it is a holiday they should remember.

If E-STDS are not an option, even for some/most guests then yes send invites out sooner then normal. I know I would appreciate the heads up before I make travel plans.

i’m such a buzzkill – but we dont go to weddings on holiday weekends – selfish i know – but we’d rather spend a long weekend away by ourselves…

send them soon!! it’s almost march and maybe people are already planning or thinking about their last summer-weather escape before fall and winter…or their last long weekend before school starts (if they have kids)

You also might have to remind Out of Town guests – esp on a holiday weekend – that hotel rooms may book up.  Our date is July 12th, not a holiday, but we were trying to book hotel for FI’s mom and brother today and many places are already booking up.  We sent Save-The-Date Cards, but I think I am going to send an email later this week to our Out of Town guests to remind them that, although we aren’t necessarily thought of as a vacation destination, there will be no hotels if they wait until May!!  So I don’t know where you live, but you might be surprised at whether your guests can get a good room if they wait until 6 or 7 weeks beforehand to try to make a reservation.

And Anti-Zilla – you’re not alone.  I went to my sister’s wedding Thanksgiving weekend, but she is my sister.  In general we reserve holiday weekends for us, and usually plan to get away, so it would be a big exception for us to stay in town for a wedding.  Although you might get us for a cool destination…  sister’s wedding was in Santa Fe.
