So as I have posted in the past, I have lost a LOT of weight since February of this year. 107 lbs to be exact. I ordered my dress in May (for my October wedding) and at the time I measured an 18W. They allowed me to order a 16W, and it came in June (and fit very well!) Well… I went for my first fitting and she has to cut 4″ from the bust/waist and 6″ from the hips.
I am TERRIFIED that it will destroy my dress or make it look “wonky” (very fancy vocab word) Could I get some reassurance from some other bees that had major alterations?

Oh I loved that dress! I almost bought it. I loved it because it is alterable. I lost 70 lbs after purchasing my dress for my previous wedding, They cut it down from an 18 to an 8 and it looked terrible. I totally lost the shape of the dress so believe me I looked your dress over carefully when I considered buying it. I have to lose that 70 lbs again. (I hate prednisone!) That dress is so alterable if you halfway know what you are doing.

I had the same thing happen, pretty much. Not such a huge weightloss, but I was definitely more apple-shaped when I bought my dress (bigger boobs and stomach). I was right between a 16W and 18W, but they ordered the 18W because of the bust measurement. I started exercising more and although lost only a tiny bit of weight, it totally transformed my body into more of a pear.
They’ll be taking my dress in 2 1/2 to 3 inches on each side, throughout the torso. My dress has beading and lace, but they’re taking it in at the side seams. They pinned it from the inside at the seams to show me how it will look and it looked totally normal. I get it back in 2 weeks. I’ll report back if there’s any issues, but I honestly don’t think there will be!

Don’t worry, they’ll be able to make it look perfect if they are a good seamstress.
Congrats on the weight loss! That is unbelievable!!! I can barely lose 5lbs after trying so hard for so long!

Miss Sunshine, did you get your gown back yet?
I got mine yesterday… They took my dress in a total of 4-6 inches throughout the torso and it looks *exactly* the same, it just fits better. All the lace and ruffles look perfect.
Also, unrelated, but they did my bustle and instead of using hook and eyes (which is what they said they’d use), they did little ivory satin buttons. It looks soooo pretty 🙂
