I just have to get this out there to you girls! My bf and I had to go to a family funtion of mine this weekend. Most of my extended family was there and we don’t see them too often. Well right when we walk in the door the first person I see introduces Boyfriend or Best Friend as “my fiance” and I’m just like “whoa there you’re getting a little ahead of yourself with that one!” to which he replied “oh sorry, I thought you guys were engaged now”. Okay a little wierd, but we’ve been together forever so it’s an understandable mistake right?
Turns out everybody in the room somehow got the impression that we were recently engaged. W.T.F. All afternoon we kept getting “congrats!” and “when is the wedding?”. So I had to keep correcting everybody. Keep in mind my poor boyfriend is right there with me and we just keep looking at each other with puzzled expressions on our faces. Luckily we all have a great sense of humor but it was still slightly mortifying for me. I think I know who started the rumor but she’s denying it.
My Boyfriend or Best Friend was really sweet and cool about the whole thing and we when got back in the car he just said “please be patient, I know this (aka: waiting) is making you sad and I’m so sorry to make you sad”. I know he’s been looking at rings so maybe that means he has a plan already?
To top it off I had a weird dream last night that he proposed with the exact ring I dont want LOL. I personally don’t like the look of 3 stone rings on my finger so my only requirement is that it’s a solitaire. In my dream he prosposed with a 3 stone ring that he picked out with diamonds of J, L, and K color because those are my initials. How does my brain come up with this shit?! haha.

Aw! Sounds like it’s coming soon! You’re lucky he is so understanding of how frustrating waiting can be!

@EmmyGirl: We get that ALL the time: we are an “established” couple and the way our lives are now probably won’t change much when we get married, so many assume we are married. Even friends that know we arent will still refer to me as “his wife” when introducing us. I’ve yet to hear Boyfriend or Best Friend correct anyone :-p
I’ve been plagued with strange marriage dreams almost every night lately, so I feel ya there. The ring part made me chuckle though, as about a year back my Boyfriend or Best Friend said he was going to email me some pics of rings to see if I liked any of them. I’d always been of the “he can choose it and I’ll love it” school of thought, but after looking at his email, i’m firmly *not* in that camp anymore: I hated pretty much everything he sent, so much that I’m honestly not sure where he found them in the first place. Right about then he took me to look and rings and now we are on the same page 🙂

Ah what an ordeal to go through! SO and I have many family members constantly badgering us if we are engaged yet but never went so far as to just assume we were alreay! Though SO’s Mother kept asking him this weekend if he was engaged just because we asked some details from his sister’s wedding to get an idea of size for ours. Sorry you had to deal with all the questions and hopefully you and your Boyfriend or Best Friend can have some sense of humor about it and move forward. Maybe a ring is in your near future! Hopefully not the one of your dream! But the one you dream of in your waking hours. Best of luck.

hahahahah I can’t even comment on your family thing because I am still doubled over laughing at your dream!! three different colored diamonds for your initials, that doesn’t even sound that far off from what some guys would think of

I have been in your shoes before with this! Family sometimes makes it strange, and even friends can say crazy things. He knows that I want to be with him and that I’m waiting on him, and that lets us laugh these things off a little more easily. Just join the fun and bring a plastic baggy that says “wedding fund” and bring it out when people ask. I’d say something like “You can help!”

@EmmyGirl: Oh my gosh. That would be so nerve wracking! I’m so sorry!
My SO’s friends always greet me by pulling my left hand really close to their face ‘looking for a ring’. 😛 It was funny at first but now I feel like they are putting too much pressure on him!! If people started prematurely congratulating me, I’d go crazy!

@MeiFrancis: I laughed more about your comment that “that’s not far off from what some guys would think of” hahahahaha
OP, at least your SO was so sweet about it afterwards and you know it’s coming soon! 🙂

Maybe he asked for permission from your parents and they accidentally let the cat out of the bag too early?

@kendra389: can’t you just imagine some guy all puffed up and proud of himself for his originality and the significance of the colors??? “some girls just get a random letter, but I wanted to make sure yours mattered! Isn’t it great???”

@MeiFrancis: I’d be screwed…kjm!!! Plus, no offense, but 3-stoners are NOT my thing! Haha

Haha oh I feel so much better knowing something similar has happened to other bees! I still have no idea why my family member decided to tell everybody we got engaged… either it was her way of “nudging” my Boyfriend or Best Friend along, or she was mad at me and wanted some revenge LOL.
@Loyalfox13: We were both pretty good about laughing it off. We were actually at a wake/memorial for my great-grandma and it was hosted at my aunt’s house so I said to her Thanks for the engagement party! (That might sound in poor taste to some people but we’re a bunch of jokesters)
@beachbride1216: That is a nice thought but I doubt he would ask for permission. We’ve been living together for almost 5 1/2 years so it’s a little late for tradition 🙂
@MeiFrancis: @kendra389: Seriously ladies! In my dream the stones were all a different shade of putrid yellow LOL. (even though I know IRL I sort of like buttery diamonds). In my dream he was SO proud. I told my Boyfriend or Best Friend about the dream and he was like, that’s actually kind of genious, maybe you just ruined it!

@EmmyGirl: omg, and then you told him it was a NIGHTMARE and not a dream, right? :p
