Ever had one of those moments where you wish you could turn back time by about 30 seconds and gag someone before they open their big yap? This happened to me today. I went to my bestie’s house to visit bestie and our other friend C. Anyway, they hadn’t seen our invitations yet so I grabbed them out to show them and in amongst the gushing about how cute they are C blurts out “Oh my GOD, did you tell the lady that’s what your dress was like so she could make the invitations like your dress?” WHEN MY Fiance WAS IN THE ROOM! So now, given the fact that the fella has seen our invites he has a pretty good idea that I’m wearing a white tea length dress.
Here’s what our fabulous invites are like (Etsy – Felice Designs), so you know what I’m talking about.
I didn’t want him to know anything about my dress (even though multiple people have bandied about the term “Vintage” in front of the fella a little too much for my liking) and I know HE didn’t want to know anything about it – he doesn’t even want to see my shoes before the day. I know my poor friend is probably feeling quite dodgey about it but I just can’t help but be a bit shattered about the whole thing. I feel like now he has a very good idea of what I’m going to be wearing and that it’s not as special anymore… BUM!
When did leaking details of the dress become okay? It’s happened to me heaps! Future Mother-In-Law told the whole family my dress is “very Grace Kelly” and I just want everyone to SHUT UP about it cos they’re giving it away!!!

I’m a bit confused. Has your wedding already taken place? The date seems to be in the past…
I do feel your pain, though. I’m not bothered about Fiance knowing about my dress (he was there when I picked it out), but I would be annoyed if I was trying to keep something a secret until the time was right and somebody just blurted it out!

Nope, wedding is in Novemeber – that’s not our actual invitation – its just the sample one off the vendors etsy shop. Sorry for the confusion, I didn’t want to post all of our details online.

Oooooh, that’s super-annoying, I’m sorry!! Maybe you could throw him off by saying you can’t keep it a secret anymore and just want to show him your dress and then show a pic of another long dress so he thinks it’s something else? And also, even if he does have an idea of what the dress looks like, nothing will prepare him for seeing YOU in the dress on your wedding day! That’s what makes it all special, not the dress itself!
On a separate note, that is the cutest invitation I have ever seen!!

Yeah that totally sucks!
And, CUTEST INVITES EVER. I FREAKIN’ LOVE THEM. Totally enamored by them.

UH, what etsy shop is this because this is freaking cute!!!
OK, back to your story. I would just take a deep breath and know that now he knows it is short…but he doesn’t know what it really looks like. And on your wedding day, he is still going to think you are a beautiful stunning vision!

Could be that’s why traditionally, NO-ONE saw the wedding dress before the actual day. I remember when mothers used to hold bridal teas, with all the wedding gifts set out on tables in the hall or drawing room for guests to ooh and ah over; and the wedding undergarments used to be put on display in the bedroom as a sop to the inevitable feminine curiosity about what the bride would be wearing. Which always led to reminiscences about previous weddings and previous wedding dresses, and tended to distract people from delving further into the mystery of the current wedding dress.

Wow I can only imagine how bummed you must be, but at least he hasnt seen the actual dress so there is some mystery left. This myght have even heightened his anticipation 🙂
This is why NO ONE is going to know anything about my dress. Not even my mom. She will be there when I go buy it, but I’ll let her think (as well as my sisters) that I’m buying another dress. The decoy dress because no one will actually open the garment bag when I’m taking it home.So they can blab their little hearts out and be just as surprised on the wedding day.
The can’t get over how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE your invites!!!!

I would not be upset. A cartoon-like picture does not do justice as to how beautiful you will look on your wedding day. The detail of your dress and how you will be looking in it will not come anything close to your invitation image. All he knows right now is that your outfit is short. Other than that, no sweat… its the same as telling him your dress is long. Every dress is different. No worries.

@Loulee – thanks for the perspective, I know you’re right, it’ll all be fine and he’ll think it’s fab and it’ll all be happy days.
Thanks for all the feedback everyone, guess I just freaked out momentarily – and thanks for the invitation love – they’re from Etsy seller Felice Designs – Shannon is fabulous, her invites are ridiculously cute and I was super happy with the product and service.

Ditto on how fabulously adorable your invites are! I LOVE IT!
That’s disappointing that he knows a bit of what it looks like by the invite thanks to your friend, but I agree with Loulee, there’s a huge difference between a cartoon and what it’s going to look like on you! Are you doing a veil or anything? There are going to be a million little details that’s going to make it different from how it looks in the drawing. Really, all he knows right now is the length. Shoes, accessories, hair, veil, all those things really shape and polish the look. You’re going to knock his socks off, don’t worry!!!

These are my invites too! I LOVE Them!
I was wondering about the dress too. I was wondering if I want my Fiance and the guests to have an idea about the dress before they see it. Oh well. I said the heck with it and let her do a dress that is similar to mine. It’s not the same so I will still be a surprise on the Big Day!
