Just wrote this to another Bee whose partner finally stood up to a controlling mother:

Congrats! Your Fiance stood up to her/them. Wooooo!

Now the bad news- if parents are used to submissive children, it can be a real shocker to them when they are stood up to.  That means that they can fight against the independence and ‘free will’ even harder.  When my Fiance started standing up to his parents, it came to them threatening to disown him and, on a separate occasion, threatening to not attend the wedding.

This may just be the beginning but trust me when I say that it is so worth it in the end.  My FI’s parents still try to treat him like a child from time to time and he still has to stand up to them, even though the biggest of the battles have come and gone.

Good luck!
