Register for what you want, then! Have fun with it.

If you have everything you need, you could always register for your honeymoon…that’s what we’re doing. We’ve lived together for several years…so we have all the household items we need. We’re going to cover the hotel and airfare, but register for meals, activities, etc. Then, we’re going to take photos doing each of the activities and send them with our thank you cards…so they see how much they added to our honeymoon.

We’re probably going to register with Honeyfund…since it’s free and there are no transaction fees for you or for guests.

The rule we stuck with is that we wouldn’t ask anyone to buy us something we wouldn’t buy ourselves.  I actually used the gift cards and cash we got to complete most of our registry.

Pick out stuff you love and would probably end up buying anyway.  Or stuff that’s a splurge but you’d eventually upgrade to.  Like china – if you’d want it once you had a bigger house, register for it now.  We didn’t register for pots and pans since ours were perfectly fine and I honestly don’t know that I’d want new ones unless it was 10-15 years from now and I just wanted more of them.  They aren’t All-Clad, but they’re nice enough that I couldn’t justify asking someone else to buy us replacements.

Register for actual stuff also if you decide to do a cash registry (since that’s what you get from a honeymoon registry).  A lot of people like to give stuff.

@miss.victoria:  Got a juicer? Formal china for hosting family thanksgiving one day? Crystal? A really good vacuum and handheld vacuum, like a Dyson? Matching tablecloths and napkins? Napkin rings? Things for setting and serving a nice table, like chargers and a set of matching serveware? Flatware? Drinkware? Barware?

Blender? Kitchenaid stand mixer?  New sheets and new bedding set? Luggage?

Could you do a honeymoon registry?

I hated making the registry too.  Just could not think of any household stuff we need (or want).  I ended up doing a lot on Amazon because there is a wider range of things we could register for.  I registered for electronic stuff (new GPS navigator was one of the things), Wii accessories, a cat condo, magazine subscription, even movies and games.  And of course for the gift card so I can just use  to buy stuff myself later.
