1. What step are you at in the home buying process? FH is pre-approved just looking around for something we can agree on!

2. Is this your first home? YES!!!

3. What are type of home are you looking for? How many beds/baths? What are your other requirements or wants? Starter home! 2 bed/2bath , 2 car garage, & not a disgusting bath or kitchen (FH just doesn’t have the energy in him to do a gut reno AND get married LOL!)

4. How are you feeling? (Happy, anxious, pissed off… etc) On edge and excited at the same time. This process has led to a lot of arguing.

5. Any advice for other bees buying a home? If you get attached to stuff really easily don’t go look in person until you know you have it. We saw this DISGUSTING house that needed to be completely gutted and redone seriously it’s really not even inhabitable the carpet is half pulled up and everything is broken. But FH took me house hunting to see it in person and I am so in love with the layout (with the work this could be an amazing property) but FH said no b/c we don’t have the time to deal with major renovations.I am heartbroken. Something about that smelly old dump really got to me.

1. What step are you at in the home buying process? We were preapproved back in November and just started seriously looking with a REA at the beginning of this month. We looked at 7 houses and fell in love with house #7. Put in an offer on Wednesday and waiting to hear back. It’s a foreclosure and there was one other offer besides us. The waiting part sucks!

2. Is this your first home? Yes.

3. What are type of home are you looking for? How many beds/baths? What are your other requirements or wants?  The house we put an offer in met most of our wish list/requirements: 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 2 car garage, nice neighborhood, on the newer side, updated kitchen, lots of natural light. It also has an inground pool which is a bonus!

4. How are you feeling? (Happy, anxious, pissed off… etc) Anxious to hear something… Anything!

5. Any advice for other bees buying a home? No advice really – I’m still new at all of this. ๐Ÿ™‚

1. What step are you at in the home buying process?

Awaiting settlement! Bring on 18th Feb!!!

2. Is this your first home?

Yes!

3. What are type of home are you looking for? How many beds/baths? What are your other requirements or wants?

We were hoping for a 4 bed two bath but with our price range of $350k it was a bit too much to expect. We did how ever find a 3bed 2 bath with 3 living areas ๐Ÿ™‚ yard is a bit smaller than I wanted but it will make a great started as its in an amazing area with new schools and everything.

4. How are you feeling? (Happy, anxious, pissed off… etc)

Excited! But nervous about the fact were struggling to get out of our lease.

5. Any advice for other bees buying a home?

Be patient. But make sure that you are available for all house opens no matter if the listing makes it look amazing or not… something that may look awful may have the most potential!

Can I just say how exciting it is to be able to post this? Yay ๐Ÿ™‚

1. What step are you in the home-buying process?

We are just looking for now and not pre-approved.

2. Is this your first home?

Yes, it is ๐Ÿ™‚ (OMG, yay!)

3. What type of home?

At least 2 bedrooms/baths. It MUST (MUST!!) have a garage. We live in Wisconsin, no garage=no sale (no joke). We’re 100% staying under $150,000.

4. How are you feeling?

Awesome! This is a wonderful step in our relationship and it shows just how much we have in common ๐Ÿ™‚

5. Any advice for other Bees buying a home?

Nope. I need all the advice I can get! LOL

ETA: where we live, #3 is usually not doable. The houses around here will have like 3+ bedrooms and 1 bath all on the second floor. The lucky things for us are: hardwood floors (ususally thoughout) and gorgeous built-ins.

1. What step are you at in the home buying process?

We’ve been saving money like crazy and finally have enough that we can go out and start looking at houses.

2. Is this your first home?

Yes!  We’ve had an apartment, but so excited to own!

3. What are type of home are you looking for? How many beds/baths? What are your other requirements or wants?

We want 3 bedrooms, preferrably 1.5 or more baths (but that’s not a deal breaker).  We need a fairly large backyard for our dog and future kiddies.  Hubby wants our backyard to back up to trees, or at least have no neighbors behind us.  It also has to have a dishwasher, or at least somewhere where I can put one.

4. How are you feeling? (Happy, anxious, pissed off… etc)

Anxious.  I just hope everything goes smoothly.  And Excited!

5. Any advice for other bees buying a home?

IDK, give me advice!

1. What step are you at in the home buying process?

I have been looking since I moved to MI last May (FI gave the go ahead today!) and althought I debate leaving the area he has strong family ties and it’s not that bad for the next 5+/- years.  We need to get pre-approval, but I think it will be in FI’s name since he quaifies for a VA loan (0% downpayment), we aren’t married and I owe a home price worth in student loans so my credit isn’t going to make owning a house possible for a few year.

2. Is this your first home?
Yes, first home for both of us.

3. What are type of home are you looking for? How many beds/baths? What are your other requirements or wants?

Need: In Ann Arbor (maybe close-in), 2 story, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, porch/deck and fenced in backyard. Want: hardwood floors, older home w/ character, updated kitchen and bath, lots of light and windows, in a walk/bike friendly area of town. My dream house would have a pitched-roof master bedroom where an attic once was and french doors.

4. How are you feeling? (Happy, anxious, pissed off… etc)

Happy that I got the go ahead to really look and contacted a RE agent.  I use to watch HGTV all the time and my pinterest in mostly paint swatches so bring it! A tad nervous too since the next few months are going to be really hectic to begin with and we are stuck in a lease until last day of July.

5. Any advice for other bees buying a home?

I accept any/all advice/feedback from others.

1. What step are you at in the home buying process?

pre-qualified and frustrated after a week of looking at houses

2. Is this your first home?

yes and no. My brother and I used to flip houses but looking for a home to live in is very different. I keep looking at houses in terrible shape (ie condemnable) and saying hmmm I could make a $100,000 profit on this one. I forget to consider whether I would really like to live there. It has been difficult to retrain my brain to think forever home.

3. What are type of home are you looking for? How many beds/baths?  What are your other requirements or wants?

I need at least a 3 bedroom 2 bath house with the possibilty of adding a few more bedrooms by converting an attic or basement. I need a place for a playroom and swing set as we are working to be foster parents. I grow my own food so an area for a huge garden is a must as is a space for my chickens. I need an open floor plan in the main living areas to keep better track of kiddos. I must have lots of natural light as well as a sewing area. Oh and well water is a must! Chlorine is terrible for you.

4. How are you feeling? (Happy, anxious, pissed off…  etc)

I am extremely stressed out by the whole process. One week in and I am ready to quit. It doesn’t help that we are renting my dream house which will never come on the market. I also don’t feel ready to buy. I have never had to look at a place and think forever. What if I pick the wrong house? What if three years down the road I am unhappy? This time I won’t be moving in under five months! I feel that it will take me two years just to think through every detail of what I can and can’t live with.  Also the thought of packing all those boxes again makes me cringe! I know we need to do this. We will be much better off financially if we buy. It will help us provide a more stable home enviroment. It is the most logical thing to do. I just hate the uncertainity of it all.

5. Any advice for other bees buying a home?

Please do get an independent home inspection by a very well recommended inspector. This is one area where you do not want to use the yellow pages! Having gutted many a home I have learned that many many things can be covered up and usually are. Some issues can be catastrophically expensive. This is one area that you do not want to go with the lowest price. Not every inspector takes their time or really knows their field. If you are building please still get an independent inspection during the building process. The $300-1000 is money well spent. I have encountered just as many poorly constructed new homes as older homes. Not every county inspector is thorough or every contractor honest. Corners do get cut or things just overlooked. You do want to get what you are paying for and not have nightmarish problems down the road that will eat up your savings.

1. What step are you at in the home buying process?

The seller has accepted our offer and we had the home inspection last week.  Our mortgage company orders the appraisal, and this is the part we are waiting on right now (plus a couple of quick fixes that the seller is going to do as a result of the home inspection).

2. Is this your first home?

Yes for both of us!! We are really excited!

3. What are type of home are you looking for? How many  beds/baths?  What are your other requirements or wants?

We put an offer on a townhouse with 3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, larger kitchen, and it’s open concept which I really like.  It has a really nice yard, separate driveway.  We are very fortunate that it has been completely renovated so it is almost like new! We wanted a finished basement, but it wasn’t an absolute must.  We can definitely finish this basement later on down the road.

4. How are you feeling? (Happy, anxious, pissed off…   etc)

I am so excited, but anxious too! I just want to close, I feel like the process is taking forever.  In reality it has been pretty smooth, but the waiting is hard!

5. Any advice for other bees buying a home?

Get pre-approval before putting an offer in! We put a back-up offer in on this house to start out with because another couple had put in an offer before they had their financing secured.  They had 30 days in their contingency agreement to secure financing and were unable to do so, which is why our offer was accepted.  I really felt bad for them, but unfortunately it can take a while for things to fall into place with the mortgage company (and if you are using FHA or VA programs it can take more time).

1. What step are you at in the home buying process?
We bought last April and moved in a month later

2. Is this your first home?
No, it’s my 4th and his 3rd (he rented for years before buying, I have never rented)

3. What are type of home are you looking for? How many beds/baths?  What are your other requirements or wants?
Garage, dark kitchen, hardwood floor, 3 bedrooms, decent sized closet, newer home

4. How are you feeling? (Happy, anxious, pissed off…  etc)
I was getting anxious because we didn’t have a lot of time to find a place and it seemed like there was nothing that was exactly what we wanted. Once we found our house though I was estatic!

5. Any advice for other bees buying a home?
Just remember to breathe! It can be stressful and scary but in the end it’s always worth it.

@lisha_1988:  How is the lease thing going? We are in the same boat, but I’m thinking of just walking away without paying the additional money. My mom said it will come off of our credit very quickly and it would only be a months worth that we owe. Plus we will ahve gotten everything we wanted (i.e. a house, car, and credit cards).

they were real asses with the final inspection they made me clean the kitchen three times!! And apparently the professional carpet cleaner didnt do a good enough job even tho it was their cleaner? Oh and we were forced to pay for a professional painter to reprint most of the place

1. What step are you at in the home buying process? Pre-approved and about to see our 65th house later!!

2. Is this your first home?  Yes

3. What are type of home are you looking for? How many beds/baths? What are your other requirements or wants?  Preferably a colonial, cape cod, or split level. 3+ bedrooms. 2 full bathrooms. Basement. Backyard.

4. How are you feeling? Getting more anxious & pissed off because we just want to find a good house. We were forced to extend our lease a couple of months because we still haven’t found a house. I want out of apartment living!!

5. Any advice for other bees buying a home?  Give yourself plenty of time for this process. If you are at a lease deadline like me, start even earlier than you originally planned.

@BlueDolphin:  Me and my OH just bought a house (started the process in August and got the keys on 5th December, moved in on 5th Jan) yay! It is our first home, we are both 24 this year and i have a son from a previous relationship. We wanted a 2 bed home somewhere with good schools and we got it, Its lovely and it was the first one we viewed (not sensible but we knew what we were looking for). My advice to UK bees is to get pre-approved before looking, we were and when we saw this house we wanted to put an offer in immediately but they were only taking offers from pre-approved people so it helped speed the process up =]

1. What step are you at in the home buying process? Contracts have been exchanged, we’re basically just waiting for settlement! Why, oh why did we agree to a settlement in August?? I want to move in now!

2. Is this your first home? It sure is!

3. What are type of home are you looking for? How many beds/baths? What are your other requirements or wants?  We’ve got three bedrooms, two living areas a main bathroom and an ensuite. One of our main requirements was a big backyard, and we’ve got just under 2 acres, so we’re really happy! The price was at the top end of our budget ($420K)

4. How are you feeling? (Happy, anxious, pissed off… etc). Excited, impatient, and a little anxious about the costs.

5. Any advice for other bees buying a home? Budget budget budget budget budget budget budget. We’ve accounted for every dollar we own and what we’re going to be earning over the next few months/years, too.

1. What step are you at in the home buying process? Pre-approved for mortgage, looked at houses with realtor yesterday. Have to move in by June 18, so this is a speedy timeline

2. Is this your first home? My first house, not his. I’m doing this on my own, though, I want to keep it clean financially until we’re married.

3. What are type of home are you looking for? How many beds/baths? What are your other requirements or wants?  Something within 20 minutes of the hospital where I’ll be working (so I can take home call), room for our 5 dogs and 6 cats, either in a very dog-friendly neighborhood or very private (so our happy dog barking won’t tick off the neighbors), at least 3 bedrooms (one for us, one for a baby, and one for guests). Dearest wants a “human-animal interface” area –a family room where we can have our fur family, but then have an area where we can have nice furniture that won’t get scratched/chewed on. I would love to have garden space. Basically, we want to live in the Shire.

4. How are you feeling? (Happy, anxious, pissed off… etc). Varies between happiness about finally getting a house to ticked off at myself for chosing a place where the housing is expensive and ugly (my #3 choice was in an area with beautiful houses that are incredibly cheap). At the moment, I’m very happy to have found a realtor who seems honest, straightforward, and not pushy.

5. Any advice for other bees buying a home? none yet–I’m seeking it!
