Darling Husband and I finally decided to start looking for our first home (we’ll be first time homeowners). So far, we’ve been looking at neighborhoods we like and looking at prices, and we have a realtor-friend who keeps us updated on homes newest to the market. Our parents are homeowners as well, but I’d love to take in as much advice as I can. So give it to me straight: the good, the bad, & the ugly of home buying (and maybe even things to look for when searching).

I personally liked touring homes because I’m super nosey but otherwise I hate the whole process to be honest. I live in a hot market and at our price point we lost a house and had to outbid several other buyers to get our current home. We had to move very quickly on offers which stressed me out. I think in a more sane market it would be fine though. However I LOVE owning! I can do whatever I want to our property and when something breaks I get it fixed quickly and properly unlike my old deadbeat landlords that I’d have to pester for week and then they’d “fix” everything with caulk or duct tape.

Just be careful not to put offers on the first one you look at simply out of excitement!
Also make sure you’ve got about $5,000 saved for taxes and fees, those hidden costs REALLY add up!
And don’t me disappointed if your first offer doesn’t get accepted, there will be more!!
