For the bedroom, I would want blinds as curtains don’t usually block out the light the same.  Blinds can also save on heating costs for the same reason.

I think either way is fine. We have both. Maybe it also kind of depends on where you live though. I think if we were in the country we’d be more okay with just curtains. We live in the ‘burbs though and we don’t have a very nice view. I don’t like the look of curtains closed, but I also don’t want to have my windows totally open for all my neighbors to see. So I like having our blinds closed but curtains open.

I don’t think either way is strange, but in my home we either have wood blinds with no curtains or a curtain with no blinds, depending on the room.  I think I prefer the look of curtains with no blinds.

Personally, I love curtains and ever since I purchased curtains which block off the sun…I could never go back to blinds ever again. I sleep so soundly at night because it’s completely dark but the curtain were made out of a a very good material and looked great. I purchased them from Ross.

I can’t stand blinds.  Everyone else on the front side of our apt complex has them, becuase they are easy to hang in the windows that we have, but I chose to just go with curtains.  We are on the 3rd floor (top floor) and have screens, so I put up two layers of curtains – a sheer white to cover the window, and sheer navy as sides.

I did cellular shades with curtains in most of our rooms – I love the combination!

Every place I have ever lived has had blinds on every window.  Then some windows have had curtains in addition to the blinds.

@secondchances:  That’s what I was going to say! Ever since I had to clean the blinds in my college apartment, I will not get them if I have the choice!! OP i think curtains are just fine for you especially since you don’t have to worry about neighbors

I’ve always felt more secure having both. I don’t like feeling as if people could just peer in and watch us (even though you don’t have neighbors!). Also, I don’t like the look of closed curtains.

When we moved into this place only one window had blinds, in the smallest bedroom. It was so strange to me. But we bought blackout curtains for the front room and our bedroom, the other rooms just have regular curtains. It’s worked just fine for us.

Both! I like blinds for privacy & to keep the sun out. I like curtains for decor.

For me it depends on the windows and the room.  Our bedroom has solar shades and we’re in the process of finding curtains as well.  The kitchen also has wood blinds.  Every other room has just curtains because neither privacy nor excessive light are concerns for those rooms.
