I’m having a vintage/rustic barn wedding and have been pretty set on having home made soap as guest favors. Last night I put it all together and here is my finished product!! The tea cups and silver plates will be decor. What do you think? Neat idea? My options were home made soap, home made jam, or home made candles… i just like the soap idea the best!

They’re cute, but not really usable.

It looks very nice but I would definitely place them on a separate table near the door. The scent could be a bit much at the dinner tables.

I made soap for a living some years back and I can tell you now that if you don’t care if people use them… they won’t. Soap seems to have a particular… flair. If it is obtained in certain ways, people will never use it. If it is pretty, or has any form of decoration, people will never use it.
So, it’s a cute idea, but people will not use it. If that’s okay with you, go for it. But it will likely be put in a bathroom drawer and it will never see the light of day again until spring purging and/or the residents move out and it will have a conversation like, “Where’d we get this soap?”
“Dunno, throw it out.”

Great idea, they are not very strong but i could see once there is a bunch together it could be overwhelming!

It’s very thoughtful and very cute 🙂
I’d prefer your adorable soaps to 8 M&Ms in a tiny plastic bag I cannot get opened.

I honestly would either do the jam or candies. Most people are just going to as PP said either throw the soap away or it will get stuck in some drawer.

I think it’s a nice idea. Unlike other posters, I appreciate the thought that goes into homemade soap and prefer it to regular industrial soap (unless the scent is really strong / bad). They look really beautifully packaged as well!

It’s very pretty. I’d prefer something more usable, but I guess if people want to use the soap they’ll cut away the decorations and use it. It is very very pretty though!

One thing i dont want to do is candy. And jam seems very popular with my type of wedding. Which is ok but thought soap might be more unique.
My mom has made home made soap for some time. She would also be the one to help with the jam and candles. She is very crafty and used to participate in craft shows.
Another idea i have had is to give my guests an option between the soap and candle/jam. I like the fact they would have an option but would that be a little over board?
I do like these Jam and candle favors. Evern with the opinion already said im still kind of stuck on my soap…hmmm! lol 🙂

I’d use the soap as a nice-smell-in-the-drawer / closet if it was wraped in some nice paper.
For some reason i don’t like it wraped in burlap & lace…
(Maybe because I am thinking it might stick together with it awefully? Not sure…)

@soontobehisbride: i think they look cute but imo, you are going to go through a lot of wasted efforts. people will leave them or throw them out.
i like your idea of homemade jams. that will get used.
they can still be decorated to fit your theme.
