Hey ladies! I was just wondering if any of you have a great home made toners/skin care that you created yourself?
I heard that lemon, orange peel is good for our skin. I do plan on making my own toner adding lemon juice and not to sure what else To mix with. Please do share! 🙂 My face has gotten so bad /: Pic below is current pic as of right now, Ive been breaking out on my left cheek and it leaves with scars, ugh… About 2 months ago I had a pimple scar on my right cheeks but that somehow faded, thankfully… just recently had I realized that skin care is soooo important. I never really had large pores but since using making up everday nov2013-Feb 2014 every single da. & not really taking care (removing making up the right away) I noticed I developed large pores 🙁 I would hate to buy expensive products and it may or may not work for me.. So I thought about home skin care that I could create.
Products that I use now: Mint julep masque (green mask) , Bare Minerals exfoliating powder, Eskinol Toner (Acne, whitening, brightening, pores) Here and there do I use whitening soaps on my face. Pic below is my face, no filters.

I think I have similar skin to yours, and I use a very gentle face wash, then I alternate each day between witch hazel and tea tree oil. I find that really helps keep the acne at bay. Once either the witch hazel or tea tree oil has sunk in (I usually wait 5 mins), I apply a really good oil free moisturizer. *It took a couple of weeks to really notice a difference in my skin, and it seemed to get worse before it got better, but my skin is the clearest and most radiant it’s ever been.

I have tried everything under the sun ( including Accutane, Proactive, Retin- A Micro, oral antibiotics, birth control for skin control, Clinique Acne Solutions, Tea Tree Oil skin care line, etc). There’s no telling how much money I have spent over my lifetime in skincare, THOUSANDS for sure.
The best thing I have ever tried has been organic, raw, unheated honey. I do a honey mask every night for 10-20 minutes and it has dramatically improved my skin and health.
I also have a pseudo- paleo diet and that also is part of it. Garbage in, garbage out… same goes with skin. Eliminating crap from my diet really improved my skin, and the honey has helped heal and smoothe out some of the uneveness from years of acne and picking at it.

The best at home facial I’ve found is just plain old honey 🙂 If you want to exfoliate you can just use some whole rolled oats with a bit of water.

Faith123: Time to exfoliate. Those little cheek pimples aren’t just from oil. Dead skin cells clog those pores. Use a mild exfoliater. You can make one with tiny sugar granules mixed with your cleanser. Another home remedy is to also use fine sugar, honey, and cooled green tea. Honey is a natural antiseptic and humectant. You could also take rice and grind it up into a fine powder in a food processor and try that. Yogurt (greek preferably) also contains lactic acids that help with acne.

Honey with crushed up aspirin is a great scrubby mask. I know that oil sounds scary, but rose hip oil helps with skin texture SO much. It’s not too expensive coz you only have to use a couple of drops at night.
I also love using apple cider vinegar as toner…I use 1/4 strength with filtered water. It reeks but it’s good stuff!

pink.lemonade: That’s right, aspirin! I forgot, that’s essentially salicylic acid!

Faith123: Ugh adult acne sucks! Right? Everyone told me it’d go away by now! And trust me mine was much worse than yours…
I made a mixture of coconut oil and baking soda. Don’t know the ratios, but enough to make it like a paste. I wash my face with that now instead of harsh cleansers. The baking soda cleans out your pores and the coconut oil moisturizes your skin (it is SO soft after!).
Then I use a toner o f3 parts filtered water and 1 part unfiltered raw apple cider vinegar (don’t worry, the smell goes away afer a couple minutes). It kills bacteria, protects your skin, and closes up your pores!
I’ve been loving it!
Another bee on here once recommended taking a zinc supplement. I haven’t tried it but it seemed to work for her.

Faith123: Also, if you just can’t stand the smell of the vinegar…
Boil some water and steep fresh or dried basil leaves (about 3 tbls of basil per 1 cup boiling water) and steep for like…15 minutes. You can use this as a toner by itself, no vinegar.
You can steep all sorts of herbs with the water you use with the vinegar to help with the smell too if you want.

Mrs_Amanda: Omg you sound like me!! I too have used everything under the sun on my skin with ZERO results (except proactiv that works for like 20 mintues…) until I used organic/natural stuff. My bathroom looks like a frikin labaratory now and my Fiance calls them “potions” lol.
AND I’m on a paleo-type diet too! But I probably eat more dairy than most, it’s more ketogenic in general than paleo. But it has made major improvements on my skin and how I feel in general. Anyway, though that was cool!

Apple cider vinegar applied with a cotton ball has cleared up like 90% of my acne. It doen’t smell good, but it works.

playdohpants: Yes, exactly!! I also still eat (some) dairy, and people say that dairy intake does impact your skin, so there may be some truth to that as well.

is it safe to mix baking soda ang eskinol?

Do NOT put lemon or any other citrus fruit on your face, it’s too acidic and will hurt your skin. Same goes for undiluted vinegar. Baking soda isn’t good either, and coconut oil breaks most people out. Sugar particles can cut your skin.
Get yourself to a dermatologist or at least to https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/ and follow their regime.
Mild cleanser (pH 5,5 is best), mild toner with no alcohol, a good chemical exfoliator and a good hydrating moisturizer are what you need. I don’t know what products you can get where you live, but either a dermatologist or the skincare subreddit can help you with that.

I’ve followed a Kbeauty routine for about eight months now and it’s been great. https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty My skin texture has gotten smoother, my hyperpigmentation has improved. Read up and start slowly.
