I have a dressmaker hired to make me a dress. We’re going to buy fabric in the next couple of weeks, and she’s beginning to actually make the dress roughly in mid March, to finish mid April, a;llowing three weeks for any necessary adjustments.
I had for a long time my heart set on one of these dresses, but am very very confused since I came across the other! Which do you all think would be prettier?
I’m 5’6, a size 18 [depending on brand/day/phase of the moon/whatever]. I’ve a large chest, and am keen for it to not be centre stage, or worse, look matronly. My shoulders are the same measurement as my hips. I have a fairly flat bum, considering. My waist is not too bad, and will be helped along by a corset or some such. My arms are bigger than I’d like.
I’ll be wearing fairly flat shoes, in case that makes any difference. And Ireland isn’t particularly hot in May, so that’s not a factor.
Now! Ye know more than me doctor, which should I go with?! And I would appreciate as much detail as possible!

i love the second dress! it’s so dreamy and ethereal.
silk isn’t a forgiving fabric, so the second dress might be more flattering. have you tried on gowns with empire waists? some people love them because they hide your midsection, but some people think empire waists make them look bigger.

Oh my gosh I LOVE that second dress. It is so romantic looking

I voted from the Jim Hjelm. From your description of yourself it sounds like your waist is your favorite part of your body. The Jim Hjelm highlights the waist and the empire cut of the alisa benay completely hides the waist. If you are really uncomfortable with your arms you could do the basic cut of the Jim Hjelm but add another strap and do cap sleeves.

My only concern about the Jim Hjelm one is that the fabric and cut might not be flattering. It looks like it would show every curve. Have you gone to a bridal store to try on any gowns to know how they look on your body?

While I loooooooove that Jim Hjelm beauty, I would go with the Alisa Benay. I think the Jim Hjelm requires a body basically of that model wearing it, and the other would be much more forgiving and beautiful on a normal body type.
You could maybe even take the one shoulder element of the jim hjelm and add it to the other one to make it more similar…
Love them both 🙂

Wow, I want that Alisa Benay for myself, it is so pretty and wonderful. I like the little bit of sleeves, I think the dress is very attractive.

I have a very hard time visualizing your body type. I don’t fancy either dress, sorry. The first one really dosn’t do it for me and seems to be made for skinny minny and the empire waist on the second one puts me off since they tend to make people look much bigger than they are. I think if the waist was lowered on the second one than it would be much better.
Bonny has some lovely plus sized dresses in their unforgetable collection, if you want to look at them for inspiration.
Off topic are you from Ireland or having a DW? I’m having a Destination Wedding in Northern Ireland.

While flowy is nice, it isn’t always figure flattering. Personally, I think that too much flow can make people look larger than they actually are. I have a big bottom half (pear shaped) and flowy dresses make me look huge! I think the JH is best. It has a beautiful waist that will really highlight that area and give you a beautiful shape (especially since you’re uh…gifted…up top). Silk may not be the best fabric, so maybe keep looking at other dresses that have the same waist. Of course, either dress is nice. And I am sure you are going to look STUNNING on your wedding day in whatever you choose to wear!

I think the second will be the most flattering for a more curvy girl! It’s gorgeous!

Honestly I prefer the first one. The second looks like a maternity dress. The first one would be stunning.
