ja0508 :  I would go back to the jeweler you purchases the ring from and ask them to see Halo engagement rings !  You can get way more bang for your bucks with a halo !!

gardnerg :  not encouraging him , he already purchases the other ring.. I told him to go back to where he purchase the ring and ask to see halo engagement rings ! That doesn’t mean he will buy it not to mention he might think we are all nuts and keep the current ring he bought ..  And my halo is from a jewelry store !! Design brand but it was still purchase at a jewelry store ..

ringlove :  I didn’t mean a store bought ring can’t be beautiful, it can! But it does mean overpaying by at the very least 50% and if he can get the better quality for less money, why not?

I was at the mall and went into zales the otherday and was looking around and saw a 1ct “G SI2” that was yellow and I mean YELLOW! and the clairty was was an I2 you could barley see through the thing and they wanted 6,000!!! And some innocencet man that is spending his hard earn money to get a beautiful ring for the woman he loves is going to go in there and be told its an amazing quaility and a great deal ( I know cause that what they told me when I asked what the specs were.) But in reality it’s worth less than 2,000 retail, even less wholesale. And that sickens me because that man will be putting his trust in them, meanwhile they might as well be just stealing his money! ….and that is why I don’t like jewlery stores.

ja0508 :  what’s your budget if you don’t mind me asking?  If you know she likes round diamonds and antique looks then you can get some amazing value through antique diamond dealers.

pricescope forum is the place for you to get advice on the best diamond for your money.

ja0508 :  Trillions are wayyy too large for the centre stone. Middle needs to be bigger if you’re having trillions. I would swap to smaller side stones or a bigger centre stone.

Ask her what she wants – engraving like this is less popular now, it can look quite dated. Check before you buy. 3 stones are also not everyone’s ideal choice…

I think it’s gorgeous! I love the trillion side stones and the hand-engraving makes it special. But you’re definitely going to see different opinions here because we all have different preferences. You know your SO best! And if you’re not sure, you could ask her some vague questions or ask her family/close friends or see if she has a Pinterest board?

I always say if in doubt, take it back. I think you should get a round in a pave halo. If she likes antique, it has a romantic feel to it while still being modern. It will also maximize any stone you chose. Please please please and please read up on diamonds and cut/quality. It’s ok that it’s an si2, if eye clean, but in order to get a quality stone you really need to do your homework. Pricescope.com. Stat! That being said, it’s a pretty ring I’m sure many would be happy with. It’s not my style though but by now it seems like you’re getting a lot of that. I don’t feel bad saying it as you are having doubts. Your biggest mistake here is focusing on the setting though. You need to focus on the diamond. Lots of guys think a diamond is a diamond is a diamond. But thats SO not true. Please do your research. Go to pricescope and post your questions and they will help you find the perfect stone within your budget, most likely saving you money and finding a larger stone.
