I had my “try-on” the other week (where I come in and verify that the dress that arrived is indeed the one I ordered, in the correct color, etc.).
Can you please take a look and let me know if you think the ruffles around the hips have a widening effect? (Keep in mind that the dress hasn’t been altered yet, so it doesn’t fit quite right around the chest and waist — I had to order a size up to fit my large bust and they’ll take the waist in).
Be brutally honest about whether the ruffles are falling on my hips in an unflattering way — I don’t mind. : ) I have the option to remove crinoline layers underneath/tone down the ruffles around the hips, and that’s what I’m going to do if you agree that the “fullness” of the skirt is excessive and makes me look wide-hipped. The sample dress I tried on was not as poufy as the brand-new one, because it had less crinoline underneath, and also because it was squeezed onto a dress rack and got a bit flattened from daily use!.

I LOVE this dress and I think it looks great on you!!

it’s a little hard to tell because the top doesn’t fit right now. i think you should definitely take away some of the crinoline at the hips…it looks like the dress is wearing you a little. i’m sure it will look gorgeous once it’s fitted!

i think it willl look fine once the top fits right- right now the whole thing just looks overall too big on you

Once the top fits the fuller skirt will make you look super tiny in the waist. I love it!

I like it the way it is. Once it’s fitted on top I think the poufiness will even out and look very flattering 🙂

Do you have any pictures of you from the front rather than the side? I think that once it fits a bit better, it’ll take away some of the worry. It does look a bit big, but not in a “wide” way, more of a “full” way. I love it-it’s very pretty and you look so happy!
If you’re worried about it-do you have the option to take out crinoline at any time? That way, when you have the correct size, you can always adjust the bottom as you see fit.
I really like it!

@aaiimmee: Thank you : ) I think I’ll just have them take off some off the ruffles that hit right on the hips, and then see if that does the trick, before removing crinoline underneath.

I too have to agree that although the dress isn’t altered, that it really looks good on you.
I don’t think you should mess around with removing any of the crinoline layers.

And when I say “looks big”, I don’t mean in a bad way! I mean in a full gown vs. fitted/tight/mermaid/etc kind of way. I have a full/big dress also!

I actually think it looks quite nice. One thing that would be helpful to see is a front facing view. That way we can get an accurate picture of the silhouette.

I personally prefer a pinched waste, just for that effect! Love Love Love your dress though! You look beautiful!
