- Wedding: August 2016
Hi everyone! This is my first post on Weddingbee, I’m really looking for some advice!
My fiance and I have always wanted to go to Patagonia in Chile, and hike Maccu Piccu. But we won’t have much time off after the wedding, probably about 5-8 days maximum. Because of this, we thought it might be better to go on a mini-moon somewhere else relatively nearby, than go on a bigger trip to South America a year or so later. Plus, we love to travel, so at least this way we get to go on two trips!
We live in Portland, Maine, and would be flying out of that airport. We’re looking for something less than a day away to minimize flight time- preferably under 8 hours. I think we’re both interested in going somewhere warm, so though we’d like to go to Iceland, something like that doesn’t necessarily appeal to us. We’re going in early August.
We are certainly the ‘outdoorsy’ type, that enjoys hiking, running, climbing, etc. We are also both SCUBA-certified. Any suggestions for unique activites we could do on our honeymoon would be totally embraced! During the honeymoon, we’d like to relax/not feel obligated to do anything, but I imagine we will also end up wanting to go out and explore. We don’t need anything AI, but we’d like to budget effectively and keep the honeymoon under 5k.
Right now, options we’ve looked at are: Bermuda, the Carribean, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Belize, Costa Rica, Mexico, Guatemala, St. Lucia, and some others. I think our top choices thus far have been St. Lucia and potentially Belize and Costa Rica.
I’d like advice on a few things:
1) Have we identified the right destinations, does anyone have any other suggestions?
2) Does anyone have any input on these destinations, as well as where to stay/what to do/the best activities in the area?
Thanks so much!
